Post subject: Czarny-Dunajec & Odrowaz
I am looking for my grandfather who came from Czarny-Dunajec. His name was Maciej Harbut. He was born in 1869 and came to the US in 1893. He married Helen Brzezniak from Odrowaz who was born in 1874 and came to the US in 1894. Don't know where they met but his brother married her sister (Jan & Katarzyna) in 1898 in Chicago, IL.
He said his cousins in Altoona, Pennsylvania were Dzielskis. Can't get this connection. If anyone has any information on these families, please contact me.

Hi Carol,
I think this record is for the child of your grandmother's sister:
House #8 in Odrowaz:
26 NOV 1904 birth of Aniela Harbut. The record also states that she died in 1904 (maybe 1914, image is fuzzy, but no other details on her death).
Father: Jan Harbut (his parents: Jan Harbut and Rosalia Tatar - maybe Rosalia Fiedor, the name is fuzzy)
Mother : Katarzyna Brzeźniak (her parents: Jan Brzeźniak and Wiktoria Gal)
So, do you think that this Jan Harbut is your grandfather's brother? Jan and Rozalia are his parents, then. Have you been able to make any more progress?
There are several other members here who are interested in the name Dzielski.

I guess that could be my grandfather's brother's child. I saw his name mentioned on Ellis Island ship manifests during the 1900's. Jan and Katarzyna Harbut were married in Chicago so I don't know why they would be back in Poland to give birth. I have not made any more progress. How can I change the subject in my query?
