Post subject: Where do I begin? Help please. Dziuma, Sawojka - Milusze
Hello,
Where do I begin with searching for Polish family history?
How can I apply for Polish birth certificates?
This is all the information I have on the people I am researching, any help with towns or names or anything would be greatly appreciated.
Sergiej Dziuma - 26/03/1922 - Milusze
Pantelejuran Dziuma - DOB unknown - Poland
Obsauma Sajuk - DOB unknown - Poland
Olga Sawojka - 17/11/1920 - Lubycza
Ivan Sawojka - DOB Ukown - Poland
Katanua Wolk - DOB Unknown - Poland
If you put in surnames of interest, you will get a map of Poland with the number of individuals having that surname. This database is fairly recent. Your surnames are very rare, with only a few people for each. They are all concentrated in just a few areas of Poland. This may help to narrow the geography of your search.
As to birth records - If they are less than ~100 years old, I am not sure that you can access them. Older records may be available in Polish archives or on microfilm through the LDS church.
Is another searchable database of records that have been indexed. With the areas identified from the moikrewni database, you may be able to narrow these results to a manageable number.
I'm sure others on this forum will have even better suggestions than I have been able to give.
Best of luck!

Unfortunately none of the many online resources have scanned records from Lubycza Królewska so your best bet is to write to the Lubycza Królewska town civil registry (the “USC”) and request a full extract of you mother’s birth certificate: https://mswia.gov.pl/pl/form/r65811106249602,Lubycza-Krolewska.html
If your mother’s religion at birth was Roman Catholic, I would also write to the parish office of the local Roman Catholic church and request an extract from their records as well: http://www.parafialubycza.pl/index.php?p=1_16_Kontakt
A couple of other things. Reading through your parent’s immigration and naturalisation files I would suggest the following:
Olga Sawojka – born 17/11/1920 in Lubycza Królewska (in current day south east Poland)
Father: Ivan / Johann Sawojka - DOB 1892
Mother: Katarina Walk - DOB 1897
Sergei’s father’s name is Pantelejmon Dziuma DOB is 1894. With the given name of Pantelejmon, there is a good chance that his religion was Orthodox.
Segiei’s mother’s name is Oksana Sajuk.
Sergiej Dziuma – born 26/03/1922in Miłusze, powiat Łuck, woj. Wołyn (in current day north western Ukraine these two places are now called Mylushi and Lutsk – Mylushi is 5kms NW of Lutsk, Vholynia oblast)
Father: Pantelejuran Dziuma - DOB 1894
Mother: Oksana Sajuk - DOB 1897
I suggest that you need to obtain birth certificates from the town of Lutsk in the Ukraine.
Overview of doing genealogy research in the Ukraine: https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/Ukraine_Genealogy
Start with the Ukraine Archives for the Vholynia region in the city of Lutsk: http://www.archives.gov.ua/Eng/Archives/ra03.php
or the Ukraine Archive web site http://www.archives.gov.ua/Eng/
You also might try contacting the Ukrainian consulate in Melbourne: http://protocol.dfat.gov.au/Consulate/view.rails?id=208
You also might post a question to the following forum on recommendations for a Ukrainian researcher to research the Lutsk Archives records for other Dziuma family members: http://www.ukraine.com/forums/genealogy/
