Post subject: Służewo
I'm stuck in my genealogical search for my maternal grandfather's ancestry. I know he and his parents immigrated from Służewo, but I cannot locate any marriage or birth records for them on any of the big sights such as Genetaka or the Poznan Project. I've been told I'll need to locate their church. Does anyone know what churches were operating back in the early 1900s and are still here today or where the records may reside if not?

Hi Chicpeach,
Sluzewo was the location of the R.C. parish for the area.
The records of the parish of Służewo for the years 1811 through 1911 are online at https://genealogiawarchiwach.pl/
They are not indexed so you'll have to browse the scans.
Wishing you success,
Dave

Went thru scans for Służewo for 1905 and 1907. Also looked at Nieszawa. No luck. My grandfather along with his mother (my great grandmother) immigrated in 1911 and my great grandfather in 1909, both list Służewo as place of origin on the manifest. Were there any smaller towns with a church in the area that it could possibly be?
Are the LDS records the same ones that are online? If they'd be more robust, I'd make the trip.
I do very much appreciate the help.

LDS records are scans of original records on microfilm and/or DVD.
Perhaps parish Grabie, only 3km from Służewo.
Torun Archive:
Grabie urząd stanu cywilnego małżeństwa 1875-1900
Grabie urząd stanu cywilnego urodzenia 1875-1906
Grabie urząd stanu cywilnego zgony 1874-1902
LDS only older records:
Poland, Bydgoszcz, Grabie (Aleksandrów Kujawski) - Church records ( 1 )
Księgi metrykalne, 1735-1853

Chicpeach,
Although Grabie is close to Służewo, during the 19th and early 20th Centuries the two villages were in different partitions. Służewo was in the Russian Partition and Grabie was in the German Partition so they were under two distinct political jurisdictions.
The LDS films and the online records are simply two copies of the same civil transcripts. Usually several handwritten copies of the records existed. The copies on the LDS films were filmed at the Polish National Archive in Bydgoszcz and the online copy is housed at the Polish National Archive in Toruń (Włocławek branch). Allowing for any human errors in making handwritten copies, the two sets of records should be identical.
The following link takes you to a list of the parishes in the deanery (dekenat) of Aleksandrow Kujawski in the Diocese of Włocławek. Since deaneries are geographically determined, the parishes of that deanery would be those closest to Służewo. http://www.diecezja.wloclawek.pl/pl/163/aleksandrowski
The records for all the parishes of the deanery as well as those of Grabie are available at the same online site you used for the records from Służewo.
Wishing you success,
Dave
