I think I found the marriage record for Peter Masiak. There is one odd thing about it: in the record, the bride's name is Antonina Szostek - not Agnieszka. I have not found another Peter Masiak in this parish in the birth records... and no death record for Antonina Masiak... and no second marriage record for Peter and Agnieszka. The marriage record is 1884, and Adam is born in 1885. Adam's birth record shows mother as Agnieszka as do the other birth records. Not sure what is going on here.... but here is the marriage record and the link.

record is attached.

Cynthia... really interesting info you found about Masiak!

My mother's step-father was Joseph Masiak and he lists Wiecznia as his birthplace on his petition papers.

I haven't been able to find Wiecznia...do you think your reference to Wyszyny Kościelne would be the correct name? If so, I'll have to get with the original poster!

Thank you!
Joe

Cynthia,

Thank you for all of the information! It is much more than I ever imagined that I would receive, and that I hoped for.

I will work on getting the documents translated. Perhaps Antonina was known by her middle name and it was Agnieszka.

Joe,

Further information in case it is helpful:
When Adam came to the United States in 1904 on his documents he listed that he was going to stay with an uncle with the last name Masiak in Pennsylvania, so I believe there is another branch of the family here in the United States

Hi JGwizdowski,

Possibly. I did come across a Jozef Masiak when I was doing the research for Peter Masiak in the Wyszyny Kościelne parish books. I would need to know his birth date to see if there is a match.

However there is another possibility:
Perhaps the Wiecznia you are looking for is actually Wieczfnia Kościelna which "is a village in Mława County, Masovian Voivodeship, in east-central Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Wieczfnia Kościelna.[1] It lies approximately 13 kilometres (8 mi) north-east of Mława and 115 km (71 mi) north of Warsaw."

Here is a link to the online parish books for Wieczfnia Kościelna (I know this because a large branch of my family is from this parish):

http://poczekalnia.genealodzy.pl/gal/index.php?sfpg=QVAtTcWCYXdhL1dpZWN6Zm5pYV9vYnJBSy8qKjczY2NjZGFkNWJhMDNmYjI4YjRhODJlNmM1MGJiNzRiNTFhOTA5NGE4MGY5NWIzOTlkYzg5MDdiZTgzZWQzNjA

If you need help searching them, tell me the date of Jozef's birth and I will take a quick look.

Best,
Cynthia

Yet another great resource here! Jozef Peter Masiak was born April 12 1894. I loaded the book thumbnails and clicked on the index, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to zoom-in to make it readable (not that I can read Russian, but that's another story), let alone how to download the page once found.

Really appreciate your help and interest. Everyone here has been so helpful. I've been able to crack more ancestry mysteries here in the past month than I have in the past 10 years!

Thank you! Smile
Joe

Hi JGwizdowski,

I learned how to use the databases by just clicking on all the buttons to see what happens Wink

I didn't find any records when I looked at Wieczfnia Koscielne, but I did find a birth record for Jozef Masiak (Maciak) in the 1894 Wyszyny Kościelne parish book. This could be your ancestor. Do you know Jozef's parents names?

Here is the link:

attached is the record.

Joseph's mother was Constantine Malissawski and father was Peter, according to his 1927 marriage record to my grandmother. I don't think this is it? But then, my Russian is as bad as is my clicking buttons! Smile

Thank you, Cynthia... I'll keep digging!
Best,
Joe

I found his birth record. It was in Weiczfnia Koscielne after all. But, the files are in PHP format which I can't seem to download. But, here is the link to the record. It is entry #73 on page M2638. Father is Peter Masiak and mother is Konstancy Maliszewska.

http://poczekalnia.genealodzy.pl/gal/index.php?sfpg=QVAtTcWCYXdhL1dpZWN6Zm5pYV9vYnJBSy8xODk0LyoqNzkwY2I1ZTJlNThlZjU3YWNmMjMwNDdmNzdhN2FmZDZlNWJhYzAwMTAxOGNlZGY5ZWIyYjVlMzY4Yzc1NDFhZg

To enlarge the image, click on the button at the bottom of the page "Wyswietl w pelnym rozmiarze" and then use the side scroll bars to move the image around.
