I am really hoping that someone on this site can help me out! Smile

I am researching my paternal roots. My Grandfather was born Casimir Jablonski in Saulte Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada in 1919. Due to his Mother's death, my Grandfather was put up for adoption when he was a baby. My Grandfather grew up with an Irish family, and we were unaware he was adopted until his later years in life. My family and I are trying to discover as much information as we can about his Polish (Austrian?) family. Unfortunately I have hit a brick wall - I am unable to find any information about his parents and where they came from in Poland (Austria?). This is the information that I have been able to obtain on his birth parents:

Franciszek Jablonski - Father
Year of Birth - 1877 (on 1 document, he is listed as being born in 1883)
Year of Death - Unknown

Wasylyna Zahorenska - Mother
Year of Birth - 1884
Year of Death - 1920

On all of the census information in Canada that I have, both Franciszek and Wasylyna are listed as Austrian, from Galicia...they have also been listed as Ruthenian. The earliest I can place the family is 1916 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They also had two other children:

Stephan Jablonski (baptized Michael)
Year of Birth - 1912
Baptized in Saulte Ste. Marie, Ontario in 1919

Jennie Jablonski
Year of Birth - 1915
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba (have record of birth from Manitoba records)

I cannot find any passenger list(s) that names them together coming to Canada, so I am going to assume that they met and married in North America. I am unable to obtain a marriage certificate.

From the research that I have done, "Zahorenska" is a Hungarian name - I think that it is possibly an english version of the last name?

Please excuse my lack of knowledge on how to research outside of North America. If someone can help me out in any way, it would be greatly appreciated - my Mother (Casimir's daughter) has been searching for years to find out what happened to my Grandfather's birth family. I would love to able to provide her with any type of information.

Thank you so much for your time!
