Hello. I'm looking for relatives who lived in Nikolstadt in the 1800's. I believe the town name was changed to Mikolajowice when the area changed back to Polish possession. Does anyone have any info about the area? Or where I might possibly find any record repositories? The surname I am researching from there is Wirsing. I believe they were Catholic.

Thanks for all the help!

Hello,

I would say that the branch that would be worth contacting regarding the records
drawn up before 1874 is Legnica Branch of the National Archives in Wroclaw.
What they may possess I believe are mostly church records from the churches once situated
nearby Nikolstadt, covering the time period of 1794 to 1874.
(see http://baza.archiwa.gov.pl/sezam/sezam.php?l=pl&mode=show&zespoly_id=400713)

The email address to write to is [email protected]

The same branch may also be in a possession of the records from the year 1874 onwards,
drawn up after the introduction in Prussia of the civil registration in the year 1874.
These would cover the time period of 1874 to 1935.

(see http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/85/579/0/?q=Standesamt+Liegnitz&wynik=3&rpp=15&page=1#tabZespol)

The below is the list of the towns that were once situated within the boundaries of "Kreis Liegnitz", which
you may also find useful.
