I am looking for information and/or relatives of both my grandfather and grandmother. My grandfather's name was Andrei Ivanov Papuga (Andrew John). He was born October 20, 1885. My grandmother's name was Karolina (Caroline) Wybranowski. She was born October 16, 1890. According to my grandfather's death certificate his parents were John Papuga and Agnes Wrobbel. My grandmother's parents were Thomas Wybranowski and Pauline Swatowska. According to my grandfather's Russian passport the address listed was: Village - Yanuvki, Gmina Estate Komarovo Tomaschevski, District, Lublin Region #54, Unit 202 Both Andrew and Caroline arrived in the United States in February of 1912. They arrived using Papuga as their surname even though they did not get married until May of 1912 in Detroit, Michigan. My grandfather listed a brother as Stanislaw Papuga. Looking for any information on relatives and also how to obtain birth certificates for both Andrew and Caroline.

Thank you for any assistance.

Welcome to the Forum Linda Smile,

First, please click here: http://tinyurl.com/2wznhj to see on the map the places where your grandparents come from. You can find there two villages Janówka Zachodnia (West Yanuvka) and Janówka Wschodnia (East Yanuvka). From one of them your grandparents came to the US. About two miles north-east there is village Komarów Osada which is 'your' Komarov Estate.

Do you know what religion of your grandparents was? The village Janówka belonged to parish Komarów which was the seat of Roman Catholic parish, Orthodox parish, Greek Catholic parish, as well as Jewish commune. We can conclude from your grandparents' names and surnames that they were not of Moses religion but we still have three options left...

However, if you know the religion and would like to learn if there can be found your ancestors birth certificate you should write a letter or an e-mail to the State Archives in Zamosc (click here for there website: http://www.archiwum.zam.pl/index.php?page=43 ) or in Lublin: http://www.lublin.ap.gov.pl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=43&Itemid=97

I recommend you to read article wrote by James Cybulski where you can find many practical hints about retrieving records from Polish State Archives (click here: http://polishorigins.com/document/archives_practical_hints ).

I checked that in Zamosc Archives there are kept registers from Roman Catholic and Orthodox parishes in Komarow and in Lublin there are records of Greek Catholic Komarow parish.

Regarding your search of relatives, if you have any pictures or prepared genealogical tree (in GEDCOM format file) you could send them to my e-mail address and we could create simple website in our Krewni/Relatives section, similar to these http://polishorigins.com/document/relatives .

Hope it will help a little.
