Hi, I'm doing some research for an American friend's cousin who knew nothing about her father's Polish roots.

I've found information on her grandfather - a Trofim Kursik born in 1896, who died in Detroit in 1926. His marriage and death records refer to his birthplace as SNUSHCHIK in Russia - I think this is in the Polish provinces of the Russian Empire at that time (though I'm not certain).

Does anyone know where Snushchik could really be? - I'm aware that the official will probably have written down what he heard but I'm not familiar with how Polish place names would sound like.

Hope someone out there can help.

Many thanks and greetings from Bornholm in the Baltic sea.
