Post subject: Gliczarow or Glisczarow Near Zakopane and Bialy Dunajec
Does anyone know any history of a place called Glisczarow or Gliczarow. I went to stay in Hotel Kasprowy near Giewont after my Dad died. Had some really weird and wonderful spiritual experiences while I was there - and I have to add that I don't drink! I felt my Dad's presence around me all the time and I woke up one morning and there was a brochure on the bedside table that definitely WAS NOT there when I went to sleep. I opened it and looked at the map and a town name sort of leapt out at me from the page and I decided to go there. It was Gliczarow. As we were in the middle of a heatwave at the time, 1994 July, I waited until the late evening and went to reception to ask if anyone knew the place. They said they'd never heard of it. Eventually one taxi driver named Riszard came forward and said he knew it and he'd take me. He drove me straight there, it took about 45 minutes, and he drove me straight to a church. By this time it was 11pm or thereabouts. He went to the church and knocked on the door. I protested because I didn't want him to disturb the priest at that time of night but he said not to worry. The priest came out and he looked as if he was actually expecting me, which felt really strange. He opened the church, put all the lights on and showed me 3 chapels and asked what I wanted to do. God only knows why but I said I wanted to ring the altar bells. To my surprise he said "Go ahead" and to my own surprise I did just that. He left me to pray and then he gave me some leaflets about the church and apparently it had been restored after the Swedish uprising had raized the town and it's church and inhabitants to the ground. A couple called Bernarda and Andrze had restored the church and took care of the orphaned children. The odd thing is my name is Bernadette and at the time I had a very close friend called Andrew! I will NEVER forget that visit because it was just so bizarre - but then Giewont is a very spiritual place so in some respects it doesn't surprise me at all. Just wondered if anyone else has knew the place or has had any strange experiences of their own whilst visiting Giewont or Gliczarow? Thanks. PS - I promise you - I AM SANE!
