Surdyn surname - need help with origins and finding records

How common is the surname Surdyn in Poland? I did find that it is listed as a Jewish name, but the family states they were Roman Catholic. Our grandparents documentation into the US state their country of origin as Poland with Russia in parenthesis. I have no idea as to what part of Poland they could be from. Could you recommend some resources I could use to find records of families living in Poland while it was in Russia's control?

Rare surname. 58 people in 1990 Census. No additional info about this.
Surdyn 58 Wa:22, Ci:2, Gd:14, Ło:20
