I LOVE old photos of Poland, especially when they show people and give me a glimpse of life in old Poland! I like to do google searches with the words "starych zdjęć" - but I'd like to know if there is a better way to say "old photos" in Polish.

If you know of any sites with old photos, please post the link here.

Please post links ony (not photos that you have found on the internet)

I found these today:

Shellie,

You can try: "stare zdjęcia", "stare fotografie", "zdjęcia naszych przodków", "fotografie naszych przodków" (in general, "zdjęcia" and "fotografie" can be used interchangeably), "stare pocztówki" (postcards), "zdjęcia/pocztówki z XIX wieku", "stare zdjęcia/pocztówki miasta".

You can also try google translate to find Polish phrases translated into English.

Have a pleasant hunting Very Happy

Thanks Zenon!
In another posting, our fellow member MDuplaga suggested this site for Old Poland Photos: www.stareatelier.pl

THANK YOU JOZEFS! These are great sites. I can't believe how many photos there are for all of the Polish villages and towns. For members like me who can't read Polish, here is the link to each site with the google translation option. Remember that this will also translate the town names, but you can hold your cursor over the translated town name to see the original Polish name.

This is online gallery of photographs and postcards from Opole Silesia region from the years mainly before 1945. There are already 1097 pictures.

This site: www.karnet.krakow.pl is where I found the two photos from Zakopane, and a Christmas photo link which I placed on the Tis the Season forum. I found that you could get this site in English, and I did go on the site map, but so far I didn't find many more old photos. Just thought I'd mention that in case anyone is able to navigate the site, and find more than I did.

Hello Shellie and Everyone,
I am a relatively new forum member and definitely new team member Smile
Here is a link to an interesting website devoted to photographs of old Puławy, a town on the Vistula River in the Lublin Province. The name is pronounced poo-WAH - vey
This is the website: http://dawnepulawy.pl/index.php
Google Translator can help you navigate the site if your Polish is not up to scratch Very Happy
In case you wonder what Nowa Alexandria means in relation to Puławy, the town was renamed so by the Russians in the 19th century - to honor the tzar Alexander II.

The photographs also show places close to Puławy, e.g. Kazimierz Dolny, a beautiful town that used to be a Polish-Jewish shtetl until WW2. Here is one from a collection of photos taken by Germans in Kazimierz in 1942:

More old photos from Kazimierz Dolny: http://dawnepulawyalter.jalbum.net/Kazimierz%20Dolny%20na%20starej%20fotografii./

The National Digital Archive (http://www.nac.gov.pl/en/node/5Cool recently launched their Facebook profile at https://www.facebook.com/narodowe.archiwum.cyfrowe
(in Polish only)
They regularly upload photos devoted to a particular subject, e.g. today's album is called "na ludowo" (hard to translate as a standalone phrase: perhaps "folk-wise")

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150604908884032.389095.308958934031&type=1

The theme last Sunday was "The brass band"

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150602892124032.388775.308958934031&type=1

The albums are public and you do not need to log in to Facebook to view them.

A Polish friend showed me a great website with old photos from around the world. I believe it is in Ukrainian, but I used google translate to view all of the topics. Here is the link to "Poland 1932 color photographs. Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors"

http://visualhistory.livejournal.com/202142.html#cutid1

I've posted 2 of my favorites below with the translated captions from the website.
