Post subject: Mikolajczak from Inowroclaw area
I found an old letter from mid 1970's from a cousin of my mother. Her name was Irena Mikolajczak and lived in Inorowclaw. She had a daughter Eva and a son Roman. If anyone knows this family, I would appreciate hearing from them. I am trying to make a connection with my Polish roots.

Hi Gary,
There is a Roman Mikolajcak from that village who belonged to the volunteer fire department. Pehaps a letter to the fire dept will help track down the family. Also, I've had success in finding several family members in Poland by searching Facebook for people.

Hi Shellie,
I hope that Gary will find that Fireman Roman is related to him!! Wow-Just ask and you shall receive!! This is a great Forum.
I suspect that you are are a skilled and experienced researcher. Can you please tell us how you discovered this particular possible connection so fast? Perhaps it will help us, who are less experienced in searching.
I also searched facebook and found several of my Duplaga, and a several Szuba and Gacek surnamed individuals. I wrote in English to several of them. If they were teens, I requested that they show my message to their parents and I included my Ancestor's names in hopes that they may recognize someone as a relative of theirs. I did not receive any replies at all. I was just wondering if any of our members have been successful with Facebook and did they write in English?
Since I searched for the Different names on Facebook-I made what I consider to be an interesting observation. All the "Duplaga" People appeared to be pretty normal given their age groups. The teens had some trendy hairdo's or clothing appropriate for their ages, but they were basically "normal" teens to me.
However, The "Szuba's" tended to have far more radical dress and hairdo's and there seemed to be quite a few that were musically or artistically inclined in some manner. Since, I do not read Polish, I had no idea if this could have had anything to do with their locations or not. It was just something I noticed.
The other day this site had a request for information regarding a Mr. Jan Staszewski. I Googled the name and came up with Several Staszewski's who were Doctor's in some form and also some Attorneys or other professionals.
Just another observation!!
Shellie, a few weeks back you made an inquirey about my family name "Duplaga" and I wrote of my disappointment in failing to find credible information. Zenon replied to my message and suggested that I contact Mr. Hoffman. I did contact Mr. Hoffman and he replied to me a few days ago, with a detailed and interesting (to me) answer to the possible origins of the name "Duplaga", and also the Szuba surname.
I will post it on the Surname Forum, as soon as I learn how to forward it from my Saved Message folder (on Polish Origins ) to the Forum. Help please!
Thank you,
MaryAnne

Hi MaryAnne! Thank you for the nice compliment, but I have only been doing family history research for about 3 years. I knew almost nothing when I started, and I was very frustrated. So when I met Zenon on this site and returned from my Forefathers Traces Tour with him in Poland, I decided to help others, especially those who are just getting started. I guess my ability to find family info on the internet is just a skill developed over years of browsing.
I found the website by using Google, searching: "Roman Mikolajczak" Inorowclaw. When searching Google (and many other sites) to find a specific phrase or full name, put it in quotes. My search for "Roman Mikolajczak" Inorowclaw provided results that were limited to websites with the full name "Roman Mikolajczak" and the word Inorowclaw (see attachment below). Most of them were in Polish, but Google offers the option to translate the page.

I have written to many people on Facebook who did not write back. All of my messages were in English, but you could use Google translator if you want to send a rough version of your message in Polish. Some of them won't write back - but many of mine finally wrote back weeks or even months later! Don't give up - it only takes one positive reply to get the ball rolling.

MaryAnne, I'm anxious to see what Mr. Hoffman told you. I don't know if you can forward personal messages to other parts of the forum. But one simple way would be to highlight the message from Mr. Hoffman and paste it into a Microsoft word document, or Notepad. You can then cut and paste other parts of your message and edit it until you have exactly what you want to say. After that you can start your thread and cut and paste everything that you had written in MS word/Notepad. I hope all of this info helps! Shellie

Hi Shellie,
Thank you for your replies to my questions. Whenever I have rembembered to use the quotes when I've Googled, it hasn't seemed to have worked for me-but Now I will try to recall to use it ALL the time and see what happens. The sample was nice to see!
I now have hope for an answer on Facebook, since it might take a long time.
I'll have to get some assistance on getting the Duplaga Surname info posted, but will do it soon.
Thanks again,
MaryAnne

The Google search for Roman Mikolajczak also found a link to the BUDMA Business Mixer (see screen shot below). You don’t have to go to the website and download the document – I’ve cut and pasted Roman’s info from the document. It is quite fortunate to find address, phone and email. I hope that you are successful in contacting him and he turns out to be part of your family!
