Yesterday I've read this interesting story and just have to share it with you!

Polany Surowiczne used to be a Lemko village, several miles from Jaśliska, today's Podkarpackie province. After 1946 and the displacements of people to Soviet Ukraine, the village does not exist anymore. At the end of the 19th century about 670 people used to live there.
The village had its own parish. The church of St. Michael the Archangel was built at the end of 17th century.

The church did not survive. Currently, only some remains of foundations can be found there and the ruins of an old bell tower (built in 1828).
Here the main story begins: since 2012 several local societies and lovers of this area are working to protect the remains of the church - they cleaned the terrain and they are working to reconstruct the bell tower. The works are funded in the majority of social fundraisers.

This year, after reconstructing the walls, they work on the roof. Meanwhile, nuns from the congregation in Jaśliska offered the old bell that had been used in their nursery to call for prayers.

The bell was founded by Lemkos from America and cast in Presov (Slovakia) in 1927 (there is an inscription on the bell). Most probably it comes from one of the Greek Catholic churches from the area. According to the suggestion of Slovak historian Lukáš Rendek, the bell may come from the church of St. Michael the Archangel, because on the bell there is the insignia of St. Michael.

The only St. Michael church in the area was the one in Polany Surowiczne!
You can imagine the emotions and feelings of all those people after their discovery!

Maybe someone from here will be able to confirm if this is really the same bell? It is still a mystery how it survived through the decades and how it got to the nuns in Jaśliska.
