Post subject: John Grocholski Kalen or Seroc Russian Poland
John Grocholski was born in 1886. In 1917, he gave his place of birth as Kalen, Galicia/Russia & that he was a Russian citizen. In 1942 he gave his place of birth as Seroc, Russian Poland. I am having trouble finding any two villages with somewhat close spelling or sound but think he came from just north of Warsaw or somewhat southwest of Warsaw. He immigrated through N.Y. in 1902 at 16, with 2 other young men, possibly cousins. They may have traveled on someone else's papers. Both sons thought he had lived in Michigan for a time before moving to Duluth, Minnesota. One son thought he worked at a furniture factory there. He may have been in Michigan in 1910. He was in Duluth, Mn. in 1917, where he lived until his death in 1955. He spoke of living with his grandmother, in Poland. She had an orchard. He commented once on the name Dressler, leading his son's to believe that it was the name of some family members.
