Valerie,

Surname Koc comes from Polish kocić się, “to have kittens,” or koc, “coarse blanket,” also “animal
hide,”. There is also the variation Koć, which in old Polish meant "she-cat".

In 2002 there were 3798 individuals using the surname Koc living in Poland. Detailed map of the surname distribution can be found here: https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Koc .

There were only 493 people bearing the surname Koć, see the map: https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Ko%C4%87

Indeed in the old Poland there was noble family of Koc, coat of arms Dąbrowa. They were from village of Koce in Drohiczyn area (see map: https://goo.gl/maps/1OZAb)

Thank you Aga,
You are the first to be able to give me any help with my family name in Poland. This family has been very difficult to get information on from Poland.
I am putting a Koc family gathering together very soon. You have just helped me to bring something of special interest to my family reunion.
Thank you once again, Regards Valerie
