Post subject: Rogus family
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to Polish Origins and am looking for info on my maternal great grandfather, Joseph Rogus. On one census, it says he came from Austria and I'm not sure which part of Poland that would be during the late 1880's, early 1890's. His wife was Sofia Stellmacht and they lived in Harleigh, Pennsylvania in the early 1890's (he came over before she did; they were married in Poland).
Any help would be appreciated!

In which census do you find Joseph Rogus? I do not find him with a wife named Sofia in any US census. Do you have the immigration ship information? A little more information might help us help you better.

Joseph and Sofia are listed in the 1900 census. The last name is spelled "Rogos and they live in Hazle PA, Luzerne County. I have this census saved in my records on Ancestry.com. This census says that Joseph immigrated in 1891, but I don't always trust the immigration dates on census forms. It also lists their four children, one of whom is my grandfather, also named Joseph. I haven't found a ship list for him. If I can find that, then perhaps it will list his birthplace which is what I'm most interested in. On the census, it only lists Austria as his place of birth.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for looking.
It's not him. He and Sofia arrived in the US earlier. My grandfather, also names Joseph, was born in 1900 in PA and he was, I believe, their fourth child. However, maybe the Rogus clan came from that area?
