I am trying to trace some cousins from the Mlawa/Strzegowo area. I have an address from the 1920s. It is for Domicela Bojanowska at: Dorf Rydsyn Post Strzegowo Kr Mlawa Poland. However, when I look for it on a modern map of Poland, I can't find it, although I find two towns with similar names. Can anyone tel me which, if either is likely to be the historic Rydsyn, or if the village has disappeared over the years?

Here are links to two villages that are about a mile apart within Strzegowo

Hope this helps

Thanks, Cynthia. Those were the same two that I came up with. Which, if either, was the one that was around about a hundred years ago? The paperwork I have just says Rydsyn. I know "Dorf" means village, so it must be a small place and by the maps, Strzegowo probably was the nearest market town with Mlawa being the "big city".

Birth, marriage, and death records were recorded at the Gmina or administrative district. Both villages are in the same Gmina Strzegowo.

Records for Gmina Strzegowo can be found online for Evangelical, Jewish, Roman Catholic, and civil registration for records prior to 1913 here:

For records after 1913, you would need to contact the vital records office in Strzegowo.

Apparently, Rydzyn Włościański was established about 1930 as an area that was separated from the previous Rydzyn. Its landowners were peasants in contrast to the "main" Rydzyn, which was a property of nobility.

Hence, the nicknames for the two Rydzyns - Szlachecki (Noble) and Włościański (Peasant)

As Cynthia says, they both belong to the same gmina and parish, so the records for both are in the same place.
