I have been researching my Polish family and have recently posted a blog post about how it was a hundred years ago this month that my Polish ancestors emigrated to America and settled in the Springfield/Enfield area in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Some thoughts on my quest to discover my family's history are here:

http://stupolish.blogspot.com/2013/05/sto-lat.html (which also contains a link to an earlier post with more detail)

I have also posted a descendancy line on one line of my Polish relatives here:

hhttp://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=DESC&db=wojsobczyk050910&id=I43070

I am hoping to post descendancy lines from other ancestors when I have time.

I am particularly interested in finding out if I still have relatives in Poland. My ancestors from Poland were my great-grandparents Piotr Sobczyk and Anna Rosiek who were born around the 1860s/1870s and lived in the area around Gmina Korzenna and Gmina Chełmiec in between Tarnów and Nowy Sącz (many family births in Słowikowa and Ubiad) until they left Poland (sto lat temu). I visited the areas in Poland where my family came from in 2010 but ran out of time so was not able to find relatives. The LDS films that I have found for my family's area do not appear to have recent enough information to assist me (usually they run out around the beginning of the 20th century). The first link I posted above contains a picture in which my grandmother and her sisters speak about how they apparently found a cousin abroad but it does not name the cousin and I don't have any information as to who that person was.

Hi,

Have you already tried Nasza Klasa (nk.pl)? You have to subscribe (free).

That looks like a good site, but first I have to figure out who they are. Smile

I have checked as many of the LDS films as possible for descendancies, and gone to Poland, checked parish records in the Nowy Sącz and Tarnów churches, asked around in the towns where my grandparents and great-grandparents were born to see if anyone knew people with the names of my ancestors, and looked around in the cemeteries I could find in the area. I did not have enough time in Poland to follow through there with more research and investigation.

Mostly I am looking for descendants of the siblings and possibly the children of Piotr Sobczyk and Anna Rosiek, my great-grandparents. Piotr was born 6 Jun 1863 to Wojciech (Adalbert) Sobczyk and Zofia Pomietło. Anna was born 17 Mar 1870 to Jan Rosiek and Katarzyna Czop. Also I would like to find descendants of other siblings of ancestors (their parents or grandparents). They were married 26 Feb 1889 in Ubiad, Gmina Chełmiec, Małopolska.

Possibly the most likely prospects for closest descendants are:

1) Jan Sobczyk and Anna Pieńkoś - Jan Sobczyk was my great-grandfather Piotr Sobczyk's brother, born 22 Jun 1853 in Ubiad, Gmina Chełmiec, Małopolska. Jan and Anna were married 21 Nov 1883. They had children Marianna, Jozef, Teofila, Anna and Jan (that I have found so far) (all born in 1880s/1890s in Ubiad) but I have not found any further records for them.

2) Marianna Sobczyk and Tomas Ruchała - Marianna was my great-grandfather Piotr's sister, born 12 Jan 1858 in Ubiad, Gmina Chełmiec, Małopolska. Marianna and Tomas were married 18 Feb 1879 in Ubiad, had children Maria (married Wojciech Wielgus 15 May 1900 in Ubiad), Katarzyna, Jan, Eleonora (married Jan Szarata 11 Feb 1907 in Wola Kurowska, Gmina Chełmiec, Małopolska), Ludwina (married Jan Górowsky 1 May 1907 in Kurowska, Gmina Chełmiec, Małopolska). Maria's birth date unknown; all other children born 1880s. I have not found any descendancy records for any of them.

3) Katarzyna and Marianna Rosiek were my great-grandmother Anna Rosiek's sisters; I have not found any further records.

4) Marianna, Jan and Stanislaw Sobczyk were children of Piotr Sobczyk and Anna Rosiek, born 1890, 1891 and 1893 in Ubiad. They were my grandmother Wiktoria Sobczyk's siblings. They were the first three children and all the rest went to the US with their parents but they did not. Also, these three were born in Ubiad whereas all the later children were born in Słowikowa, Gmina Korzenna. It is possible that they died young, though. I have not found further records for them.

Any other family info I have would be on the RootsWeb tree at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=DESC&db=wojsobczyk050910&id=I43070 . (sorry, my earlier post had an extra "h" at the beginning of this URL)
