Post subject: ZAJAC - LANCUT - GLUCHOW SEARCHES
Help and a question or two.
My grandfather (John Zajac) immigrated to Chicago, Ill in 1910. According to a Chicago Church marriage record and a Naturalization document he was born in Gluchow near Lancut to Michal Zajac & Anna Karpel.
My research of the Zajac surname has noted that two towns/villages name Gluchow are located to the northeast and close to Lancut.
Did either of the two towns/villages of Gluchow have a parish during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s?
If there was no parish in either of the Gluchow’s during that time period was there a parish in Lancut that the villagers called their parish?
Do parish or civil records for Lancut or Gluchow exist in the Polish State Archives? I have tried searching for them at web site http://www.szukajwarchiwach.pl with zero results.
Suggestions welcomed. Thank you.

Hi,
Sorry, I see only one Głuchów near Lancut, (and many in all Poland)
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C5%82uch%C3%B3w_%28wojew%C3%B3dztwo_podkarpackie%29
In this page you have today's church organization, Archdiocese of Przemysl, its deaneries and parishes
http://www.przemyska.pl/duszp/start.php?go=diecezja/dp&d=lap
Głuchów is on the map, it is a parish, part of Dekanat: Łańcut I
This page provides excellent information about Sołectwo Głuchów, including history
http://www.gminalancut.pl/asp/pl_start.asp?typ=14&menu=84&strona=1
It is noted that the oldest document about Głuchów dates from 1364.
So far so good. The difficulties start with archives. Quite difficult in that area of Poland.
Nothing with Głuchów.
One archive with Łańcut "with scans only", it is for 1839-1906 Zalesie k/ Łańcuta.
There is an email and postal address for parish Lancut I:
Głuchów, Wniebowstąpienia Pańskiego
Głuchów 95, 37-100 ŁAŃCUT
tel. 017 225 33 93
e-mail: [email protected]
Best,
Elzbieta

Elzbieta:
Thank you for your reply to my questions.
I mentioned two Gluchow’s near Lancut because I used a current map of Poland which shows a Gluchow near Lancut. I also used a second map dated 1938 from the Wojskowj Instytut Geograficzny, Warsaw. The older map locates the present day Gluchow and a second Gluchow at 50 06N 022 13E – about three miles north of Lancut and three miles northwest of present day Gluchow.
Since the research information is during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s I figure the older map would give a better understanding of the local area. Maybe, in this case, too much information.

I did send a letter to the parish in Gluchow (Dekanat: Lancut 1) in late January. Father Augustyn Pawinski replied in February that he did not have the church books for the years requested and had not found any records for my grandparents.
I understand from what you are saying about archives is that it will be a waiting period until documents for that area of Poland are scanned and digitized.
On a happier note, I did find scanned records from the Rzeszow Archive for the parish of Grodzisko for the years of 1871 to 1891. That allows me to search for my grandmother and her family.
Thank you again for your help and information.

Darryl,
You are right, yes indeed, there is a second Gluchow on the WIG map - it is between Wola Dalsza and Wola Blizsza (on today map Wola Blizsza is Wola Mala), North to Podzwierzyniec.
Knowing that I looked up Archidiecezja Przemysla site, both Wola's and Podzwierzyniec are within Dekanat: Lancut 2
http://www.przemyska.pl/duszp/start.php?go=diecezja/dp&d=lad
No email, only postal addresses:
Wola Dalsza, MB Różańcowej
Wola Dalsza 288, 37-100 ŁAŃCUT
tel. 017 225 32 65
Łańcut - Podzwierzyniec, św. Józefa
ul. Dąbrowskiego 11, 37-100 ŁAŃCUT
tel. 017 225 40 55
Yesterday I tried to search Gluchow in old Slownik Geograficzny, got many answers, and overlooked the only line of interest (Lancut area).
Today with Podzwierzyniec I get both.

- on the right side, line 21
Bonne chance!
