Hello, my name is Jen Hanlon from Australia.
I am currently researching my husband's family. His grandparents migrated to Australia in 1949 on the SS Goya from Naples, Italy. Their names are Jan Rondomanski and Weronika Wojcik.

Jan Rondomanski was from Wilno and Weronika from Barycz, near Krakow.

Jan was in a labour camp in 1941 in Komi, Russia. He was released in 1942 where he immediately joined the Anders Army. Jan ended up back in a camp in Trier, Germany where he met Weronika and they married there in June 1949.

Jan and Weronika settled at the Greta Migrant Camp. When they left they bought a house in Greta where they both remained until they passed away.

I have been advised that as Rondomanski is not a common surname, that most likely all Rondomanski's will be related. Anyone with any information they are willing to share, would be much appreciated.

I have an address and contact name to obtain Polish war records which are being held in England for anyone interested. I received confirmation back in May that Jan's military records are being held there. I have just posted back the required documents so I am just waiting now to receive them.

Thankyou,

Jen Hanlon

Hi Jen,

Thank you for information about Polish war records held in England, I am interested.

I quickly looked up for name distribution in today's Poland, zero results for Rondomanski without diacritic, but 29 for Rondomański - indeed not a common name
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/rondoma%25C5%2584ski.html

When searching for Rondomański Wilno, I found

1. an author on Wiki
http://pl.wikisource.org/wiki/Pseudonimy_i_kryptonimy_polskie/Pseudonimy/A
ar = Rondomański (Wilno).

2. a marriage record with scan (in Litwa) on http://geneteka.genealodzy.pl , year 1829,
82 1829 45 Michał Buczyński Weronika Rondomański Wilno (Vilnius) św. Jan
http://www.epaveldas.lt/vbspi/content/biImage.jsp?imageId=/vbspi/showImage.do?id=PG_S_30555_107

3. a bibliography record here http://www.kpbc.ukw.edu.pl/dlibra/plain-content?id=34224
Dr. S. RONDOMAŃSKI (Wilno).
==1. O wodzie gruntowej terenu Wilna w związku z zaopatrywaniem w wodę gar-
nizonu. Pam. WiI. T-wa Lek. 1929.
==2. Badanie powietrza w koszarach na zawartość CO 2 . Lek. Wojsk. 1928.

4. on Katyn list http://www.osrp1939.policja.katowice.pl/Lista_Katyn-Pamietamy.pdf
664.
mjr Rondomański Stanisław
s. Wincentego
r. 1897 † Katyń

5. on a list of school students in Wilno 1922-1032
http://stankiewicz.e.pl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1110

etc.

Good luck, I do hope you will find your husband's family.

Thank you Elzbieta & Gilberto for your information Smile

Elzbieta, the address to write to in England is:

Ministry of Defence
APC Disclosures 5 (Polish)
Building 60, RAF Northolt
West End Road
Ruislip, Middlesex HA4 6NG
England

If you write a letter to the above address with as much detail as you can, you will receive a reply letting you know if they have any records on the person you are looking for. There will also be a form enclosed you need to fill in with the next of kin details etc. Pretty standard stuff. They also ask for a payment of 30 pounds for the investigating and research which I didn't mind paying. I have sent all of this back in the last week so I hope to have a reply before the end of September.

Good luck with your search and thank you both again for your replies.

Kind regards,

Jen Hanlon

You are right. Rondomanski is not a common name although there are clusters of us in different states of the US. My father was Robert Rondomanski born in Scranton, Pennsylvania. His father was Benjamin Rondomanski also born in Scranton, PA. My great grandfather was Bronislaw Rondomanski born in Poland although I do not which area. There are several Rondomanskis in the Scranton, PA area, the state of Missouri, as well as the state of Connecticut.
