Post subject: Writing to Polish parishes
Hi, is it a good idea to contact a Polish parish to ask them to search for records of ancestors? Maybe there are previous posts on this subject that I have missed. Thanks, Tim.

Tim,
This issue was already raised in our Forum a few times before, for example here: http://polishorigins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=13831 or here: http://polishorigins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=13831 . From many conversations with our guests and with Polish priests I know that even if you write in English and send a donation there is no big chance that you receive any response. But we genealogists know that we have to be resourceful and sometimes stubborn to get the information we need

I have written to Poland three times - once to diocesan archives, twice to a parish. Got fantastic results once from archives, once from archives...then no response from second parish. Oh well. It was worth it.

Thank you Christina for the info, I actually just received a reply today from the Lomza branch of state archives in Bialystok. I had given up on them and sent a letter directly to the parish priest a few days ago, so now I'm trying to decide weather to wait to see if I get a response or to go ahead and order a search with state archives.
Tim.
