We're looking for some help translating or interpreting a couple entries in an old church record for my grandparents' wedding. The attached photos show handwritten entries that were under the printed headings "Tempus et Ecclesia Baptismi vel locus Nativitatis, Sponsi" and "Tempus et Ecclesia Baptismi vel locus Nativitatis, Sponsae", which are Latin for, roughly, "time and church of baptism or location of birth, spouse", in masculine and feminine versions. I would have included more than the small snips but they were very large files. They seem to include some place names but the handwriting is not clear. I also can’t tell if there is Latin, Polish, or both being used in these entries. The entries seem to be the same except for the number at the start but I included both examples. The church no longer exists but was a Catholic church in a Polish neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

Also, this is my first time using this forum, so if there are “best practices” for attachments that could improve my posting, please let me know.

My attachments are just showing as their file names. What have I done wrong?

John,

I wonder if .tif is accepted extension. Could you make your files jpg?

Łomża is a town, and it was quite important one (gubernia łomżyńska - governorate Łomża of Congress Poland, Russian partition)

I guess in both cases the place is given with full description:
Brodowe Łąki, Wach (village, group of villages)
Łomża, Łomża, Rus. (Russia) (city, governorate, country)

Alas, I have no idea what is the name after 18 or 22. My first guess was a name of a month in Latin, but I do not see it.
We should ask for help Dave from Latin translations.

Something I should have noticed before, is that most of the other marriage records in my images have the same first line in that field, with just a different number, too many to make it likely to be a month notation. I wonder if it’s a distance, like “22 kilometers from”, though they of course didn’t use kilometers back then (the record is from 1916). I know my ancestors came from farming people, so they might not have lived exactly in the towns mentioned. I will take your suggestion and forward a question to Dave about that.
