Hello combsca,
Where did your Stalec ancestors settle? In case they lived in Chicago -- there was an obituary in the Chicago Tribune for Adam J. Stalec Sr. who passed away 1969-12-25: "Adam J. Stalec Sr, beloved husband of Anne, nee Tamulewicz; loving father of Joyce Anne and Adam J. Fr. [Casey]; ... brother of John, Louis. Chester and Joseph. ..."
Source: Chicago Tribune Historical Archive, Record Number: 19691225dn187
Was this your grandfather? If so, maybe you can find info on where exactly he came from by researching his brothers. Try to find their immigration records, church marriage records, WWI Draft Registration Cards, naturalization papers, and so on.
There is also a WWI Draft Registration Card for Adam John Stalec, born March 02, 1884:

And here are more Stalecs that you may want to check out:

My Grandfather Ludwig Sowa was Polish married my Grandmother Sophia Detzer they lived in Leutszch (Leipzig) Germany..they had 3 daughters there...Helena was first born and died at 9 months old so I was told...Maria second born stayed in Germany to take care of my Great Grandmother who was blind..she never made it to the USA...My Aunt Harriet 3rd born would go to the USA with my Grandmother at age 8...My mother Wanda Sowa was born in the USA...1914.

Ludwig left first in 1905 out of Bremen Germany...went to Chicago,IL to Walter Kraus home on Chicago Ave. in Chicago, IL. (attached post card) Picture of Maria also...My Grandmother Sofia left a year later with Harriet (Hedwig) I would love to find out if anyone out there knows anything about Maria Sowa...she did get married and I don't know her marriage name...My mom told me she had a boy and girl...was writing to my Grandmother but, when the War broke out never heard from her again...My mom remembers her crying a lot..can't even imagine how they got thru every day...So so Sad...

So that is pretty much my story....
