Post subject: Jaz/Druszkiewicz and Goral/Bidel
Hi everyone. I am a complete newbie, but have a genealogist working with me. We are completely blocked/stumped on all four of the surnames we are looking for.
My father (surname Jaz) is first generation. His parents had written down their parent’s names for us - which led to the 4 surnames we are searching.
I have been through every search engine I can find. Anyone have any advice?
Kindly,
Melinda

Hi Melinda,
What else do you know? Do you know where Jaz/Druszkiewicz and Goral/Bidel lived in Poland? Do you have first names for them? Do you have approximate ages for them? Does your genealogist live in Poland? I think in order for anyone to help, you need to provide more information.
Cheri

Hi Cheri - Yes, here is what I know for Jaz/Druszkiewicz (I’ve decided to focus here first): My father’s name is Andrew Joseph Jaz and he was born in Weymouth, England to Dominik Jaz (born Aug 1. 1913) and Helen Jaz (maiden name Goral). The immigrated to the US in 1951. Dominik’s parents were Jozef Jaz and Karolina Druszkiewicz. Dominik had 2 brothers and 2 sisters: Adam, Vincent, Jenny and Antonia. They were originally for L’wow (L’viv in Ukraine now). Adam was last known to be in Siemiawa and Vincent in Bielska Biala. We know Adam had son, but do not know his name. I do not have a genealogist in Poland, but have contacted a company to start looking. I am doing this for my father who had no family (no other family immigrated to the US) and would like to reconnect him with any living relatives before it is too late. Thanks so much, Cheri.

Melinda,
Would any of Dominik's siblings have experienced any of these situations:
All victims of the Holocaust and Nazi tyranny:
People of all nationalities that were imprisoned in concentration camps, ghettos, work camps and Gestapo prisons between 1933 and 1945.
People that were kidnapped in the Reich territory and forced to do slave labor.
Displaced Persons (DPs) who were placed under protection of international refugee organizations after the liberation.
Children who were under 18 after the liberation and who belonged to the group of persecution victims
Prisoners of war who had been used for slave labor or who had been incarcerated in concentration camps.
If by chance they were, I believe the International Tracing Service would help you out, see: https://www.its-arolsen.org/en/information/
If not, do you have an old address for Adam in Sieiawa or Vincent in Bielska Biala? If you do, even if they are not there, maybe someone at that address would know something.

My grandmother's brother's name was on the Index of Soviet Repression site. I was a little confused, because his name also appeared at the Victim's of Nazi Oppression site http://straty.pl/index.php/en/ I was told that he must have been captured by the Russians because the Nazis were not were he was captured in 1939,t hen he must have been transferred to a Nazi camp. Anyway, I was told I could write to the Central Museum of Prisoner's of War to find out more http://www.cmjw.pl/ I would think that would include information about Dominik. I don't know if this would apply to him: To obtain the war records of Polish soldier who fought alongside the Allies in World War II, write to the British Army records office. Send details of your relationship to the soldier in question and the possible units and dates of service: Polish Army in Exile Records-British Ministry of Defence, APC Polish Enquiries, Building 28B, RAF Northolt, Westend Road, Rusilip, Middlesex, HA4 6NG, England

Melinda & Cheri,
To add a little to what Cheri found for you...A Jozef Jaz (born 1876) is listed on straty as having been repatriated via Krakow. The lack of detail in the index for him makes connecting him to Dominik difficult but since his date of birth fits the time frame for Dominik's birth perhaps it would be worthwhile following up on a possible connection.
Happy Easter,
Dave

Wow, Dave, I have not found a single thing on a Jozef Jaz. That's really exciting as we know nothing of him. How do you suggest I follow up on a connection? THANK YOU.
Sirdan, that information is incorrect. I contacted her and we spoke for nearly 2 hours. She assumed that it was the Dominik she was looking for, as their family was also from L'viv. We could not find a connection!
Thanks so much for your help!

OH MY GOODNESS. Let me look. No way that could be Adam, but maybe his son. Adam would be 90+. I don't think he's singing
Let me look! I'll be back. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.

Sirdan,
It really IS Dominik's brother. They said he won the award for eldest contestant! That was 7 years ago. Is there a way to see if he has a death record? Do I contact the music festival?
I can't find anything from Wincenty. The link takes me to the main page and when I search him, I don't see anything. It really is difficult to navigate when you can't read polish!
What do I do next???

Melinda, im happy with you that how your search turned up. Sorry for late reply, but we have now easter time here
The genealogyindxer site is temporarily down. When up i will post picture. Unfortunately i cannot provide direct link to search result. You can try yourself search by "jaz " (yes, with space) and then look for wincenty (ctrl+f), there will be description entry of adress book. This book is no more available online.
Back to Adam. Here is more info about him http://tml.bloog.pl/id,5075857,title,Moje-serce-zostalo-we-Lwowie-II-Przeglad-Piosenki-Kresowej,index.html?smoybbtticaid=616ba3 He was organist in Sieniawa, so i would contact with a priest/parish. Adress and phone here http://archiwalna.przemyska.pl/duszp/start.php?go=diecezja/dp&d=sie
Other way would be to contact with culture centre E-mail: [email protected] not sure if this adress is still valid. There is also a phone number.
Whats more! Looks like Adam's memories are included in book about soviet occupation, where he talked about his siblings http://ipn.gov.pl/publikacje/ksiazki/lwowskie-pod-okupacja-sowiecka-19391941

Happy Easter! I was just telling my family about how this wonderful person in Poland was helping us with our search. Just seeing Adam’s name in print is an incredible feeling. I have emailed the church and the cultural center.
We also had an amazing find - my father found an old letter from Adam, with an address in Sieniawa. I am sending him a letter tomorrow!
Sirdan, were you able to access the chapter in the book that Adam wrote? I am frantically trying to find it, but everything I link to says that the book in unavailable.
Thank you for your help!
Melinda
