Hi everyone,

I would like to ask this question to anyone who is doing researches, wherever in Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus.

Have you ever seen a Marriage Certificate that is an Interfaith one?
Considering Catholics, Jewish, Protestant, or Orthodox Christian, have you ever found one?
Did they declared they were of different Religion?
Is it possible that the Marriage was never recorded cause it was an interfaith one?

If you have some ideas or experiences, you're welcome to share it, I think it is an interesting topic for all of us .

Thank You

I have an ancestor, a German Lutheran living in poland, who married a catholic German in her church. His religion was noted.
You may want to check out www.upstreamvistula.org. Look under "unsolved mysteries". They show an analysis of "mixed marriages" in plock from 1825 to 1835. It happened about 15% of the time.

In my years of research, I have come across several interfaith marriages. The spouses religion have always been listed - as Cath. for Catholic, Acath. for not Catholic, and in a few cases as Luth.

The percentages must be taken lightly. Catholics were heavily pressed to marry in their church for fear of
excommunication. I'm sure the percentages would be higher in Catholic parishes.

Though I've yet to find a document for my own family tree, but I know there was at least one cross-faith marriage.
I've seen quite a large number of German surnamed individuals marrying Polish surnamed.[/url]

Documentation of interfaith marriages can be hard to find depending on the family. From my experience, the family is either full of them or doesn't have any.
