We have been looking for Mary Zychowska's immigration info. She was my husband's grandmother. Mary was born in Dobrynia on Feb. 28, 1880. She was married in Vulcan, Mi on Nov 18, 1903. Her parents were Mark Zychowski and Frances Klimkiewicz. Family legend has it that Mary came through the port of Baltimore. I searched Ellis Island just to be sure and was unable to find her.
We also know that she lived in Cleveland before coming to Vulcan where her brother FRank lived.
We just recently found out that she had a sister Katarzyna for whom there are no marriage or death records in Poland. We are wondering if perhaps the 2 sisters came to America together. Katarzynia was born on 25 Nov, 1874 in Dobrynia. We are also considering that she moved to a larger city in Poland or entered a convent.
Any help that you can give us would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Judy Ball ( Bal) searching Bal (Czekaj)
Zychowski and Ciula(Dobrynia)
Jurkowski (Zawadka?)

Hi Judy,
My grandmother, Mary Katarzynia Klimkiewicz was born in 1899 or 1901 in Dobrynia, Poland. She emigrated to the US in 1919 through Portland, Maine. She had boarded he wrong boat in Liverpool as she was supposed to board one destined for Ellis Island. One of my cousins has a much more thorough accounting for dates, names and villages. My grandmother reunited with her brother John upon her arrival in Cleveland.

Kevin,

As I wrote you in the email after your contacted us with your question connected to your visit in Poland, Dobrynia records from 1890 to 1945 are kept in USC (Civil Registers Office) in Debowiec.

In Cieklin parish office there are following books from the village of Dobrynia;
– births 1784 – 1833 i 1833 – 1864 i 1864 – 1889
– marriages 1784 – 1876 i 1876 – 1889
– deaths 1784 – 1859 i 1859 – 1889 .

There are at least two Klimkiewicz families still living in Dobrynia and more in Cieklin and Debowiec.

Kevin,
My husband's grandmother was Marianna Zychowska, daughter of Marek Zychowski and Franciszka Klimkiewicz who was the daughter of Jan Klimliewicz and Agnieska Liska. Perhaps they were cousins. Please let me know if this rings a bell with you.
Thanks,
Judy Ball

Judy, I visited Dobrynia on November 11th. I have a bunch of pictures from there and Cieklin as well. My cousin Joe has researched our family and your husband's family names certainly ring a bell. Would you like to private message me via my personal email so I can give you more information? Please let me know.
Thank you,
Kevin
