Post subject: KLOSE and LINDNER from Neukirch (now named Nowy Kościół?)
I grew up being told that my maternal grandmother had German ancestry. It seems that the "German" origins can be traced to what is currently Poland.
I know very little about my great, great grandfather Carl Gottlieb Heinrich KLOSE.
I have clues from his shipping record for the Johann Caesar, upon which he and his wife Johanne Rosine LINDNER emigrated in 1854 to South Australia.
Carl apparently stated his birth year as 1830, his occupation as shoemaker, and his town of origin as Neukirch, Silesia, Prussia.
I believe that Carl and Johanne took their young son Carl Gustav Klose from their home in Prussia. There are sketchy notes in my late aunt's notebooks about the reason for their emigration being religious persecution.
Johanne Rosina bore another son in December 1854, just before the family embarked from ship in Australia on 1 January 1855.
The newborn baby boy was Carl Gottlieb Heinrich Klose - my great, great grandfather.
Johanne Rosina bore 4 sons in total, and sadly died when all of her boys were in their young childhood.
I would dearly love to trace these ancestors back to their villages. And perhaps proceed further back in the tree.

I assume you are referring to the passenger list of the barque ‘Johann Caesar’ that sailed from Hamburg on Oct 5, 1854 and arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia on Jan 1, 1855 with your Klose family on it.

The passenger list indicates that Karl Gottlieb Heinrich Klose was from Neukirch, Silesia. You probably also know the family tree of Carl Gottlieb Heinrich Klose (1830-1905) and Johanne Rosine Lindner and their four sons, or even uploaded it yourself.

This family tree indicates that Carl Gottlieb Heinrich Klose was born 24 Oct 1830 in Schönau, Silesia. I think the Neukirch, Kreis Schönau, Schlesien (Neukirch in the county of Schoenau (German spelling Schönau) in Silesia) listed under point 3) of the list Henryk posted is the one you’re looking for. Neukirch was probably the village your great-great-grandfather came from, and Schönau the county Neukirch belonged to. You may want to get in contact with the researcher given at the end of point 3 ([email protected]), he may be able to help you in your research and tell you if the records of the Lutheran parish Neukirch still exist, and if so where they are today.

You mentioned that there are some notes in your late Aunt’s notebooks about the reasons for their emigration. Are the notes in German? If so, I could try to read and translate them for you. It may help you to better understand the reasons why your ancestors left their home country.

Dear Ute, You are also very kind to help me to pinpoint which of Henryk's clues may be closer to the real one. I am very happy! I cannot wait to look further, and hope to give my father some news. He is 81 and in very poor health, and it may gladden his heart to know that his origins matter to me.

I have a Carl Klose married Antione Kupillas 1872 Wansen Silesia, Antione was born 1852. My GGGrandmother Antione Kupilas born 1833 Constadt Silesia not sure connection or if related to Carl Klose. This info from IGI record LDS. My GGrandfather Hugo Kupilas born 1853 and his brother Richard born 1853 Constadt mother was Antione Kupillas to the best of my knowledge Antione born 1833 was never married..

Hello, and thankyou for getting in contact with me about your Carl Klose.
Perhaps he is related to my ancestors. However, my Carl Klose was living in Australia and married to his second wife (Wilhelmina Mattner) in 1872, and producing many children. So the Carl Klose you mention is not my ancestor.
I do wonder whether they are related though. Perhaps they are.
