Post subject: Bugajski - Bugajski family in Chicago
Our fellow member Dejaneer sent me a personal message this week to inquire about his family. I suggested that we post his information to see if other members might recognize his family info:

Maria Szczerba (or in Slovak Štrba) was sister of my grand-grandfather Jozef Szczerba. Their parents' names were Wojciech Szczerba and Anna Krawczyk.
Maria was born in 1895 or 1896. According to my grandmothers' memories, Maria came to Provinz Schlesien or Österreichisch Schlesien (today Silesia) before WWI and from there she went to America with Ignacy Bugajski (or in Slovak Bugajsky, can be spelled in IPA /Bugaɪski/). According to what is saying my grandmother, they came to the USA probably between 1910-1920, maybe before World War I. They lived in Chicago. She married him in United States, but I don’t know the day and year of the wedding.
They had two daughters-Anna and Maria, I don't know if they have had more children. Anna, the oldest daughter, had married some military man, he was in Vietnam, they had probably three children.
Maria Bugajska died in home for elderly, probably in late 60's, or in early 70's.
I also have some photos of Maria and Ignacy from US, wedding photo of their daughter Anna. Unfortunately I don't have more information about my family, because my grandma doesn't remember more details.
If you can help me post this on forum, I'll be very grateful.
Dear Wojeciech,
Here is somethings to get us started. I found a 1917 marriage record for Ignacy and Maria. I have not yet found daughters Anna or Maria. I also found some death records for some children (Ignatus and Helen), but I’m not absolutely sure that these are Ignacy’s children. The father’s name is James/Jim. Do you know if Ignacy called himself by name James/Jim?
Does you grandmother have any letters from Ignacy? If your grandmother has an old address for Ignancy, it might help us find his family.

I couldn't find anything else either, only the 1917 marriage record, a 1918 death certificate for a little boy, Ignatius Bugajski, born 06 Mar 1918 in Chicago who died on 24 Mar 1918 at age 18 days, Father: James Bugajski, Mother: Mary Sterba. and 1919 birth and death certificates for a little girl, Helen Anna Bugajsky, born 8 Jan 1919 who died 22 Feb 1919 at age 14 days, father Jim Bugajsky, mother Mary Sterba. The family's residence was 1700, W 19th St., Chicago in 1918 and 2006, S. Loomis, Chicago in 1919. No daughters Anna or Maria. However, the marriage record says that church marriage took place at 1818 S. Paulina St. which should have been St. Vitus. I found the following information on St. Vitus: St. Vitus was a Chicago Czech and Slovak Roman Catholic Church, located at 1818, S. Paulina St., Chicago, IL 60608, 312-226-0380, organized 1888, closed June 30, 1990. In 1888 worshiped in the former St. Pius Church at the corner of Van Horn (now 18th Pl.) and Paulina St. Records at St. Adalbert, 1650 W. 17th St., Chicago, IL 60608, 312-226-0340.
Perhaps they have the two children's baptism records and records on more children born to the couple.
