Hi Everyone,

I have been trying for the last 4 years to locate my Grandfathers birth records with the intention of using for a Polish Passport and this is the last hurdle in my quest!

Have located all other required docs but just waiting on this one last piece of information.

Have contacted authorities in L'viv but have had no luck there.

Below are the details I have of him according to the records I have managed to locate. Makes it more diffficult as my grandparents migrated to Australia in 1948 and he passed away in 2005.

Name: Stefan Drobiniak Hufczak
DOB: 26 July 1924
Place of birth: Drohobycz
Fathers name: Michael Drobiniak Hufczak
Mothers name: Josepha Klimow

I have thought of seeing if there is any info on this site but I cant read unfortunately:

http://drohobych.com/

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Michael

Michael,

I am afraid that unless your grandfather was Jewish (and from the surname I suppose he wasn't) you will not find nothing in the State Archives in Poland from Drohobycz. In the State Archives and Civil Registry Offices in Poland there are available records from these years only (mojżeszowe means Jewish, and rzymskokatolickie means Roman Catholic): http://goo.gl/3pW5e .

If you know that your grandfather was Roman Catholic you may want to try to contact Archdiocese Archives in Przemysl, but there is no guarantee that they will send you any reply. Address of Archdiocese Archives in Przemyśl:

Archiwum Archidiecezjalne
Plac Katedralny 4 a,
37-700 PRZEMYŚL
tel. 016 678 66 94 w. 38
email: [email protected]

Michael,
I also have family from Drohobycz, but I have not had luck finding them. I still have a long way to go before I get to the point that you are right now.
There are some very helpful people at the genealogy forum of Ukraine.com: http://www.ukraine.com/forums/genealogy/

Maybe you obtain some clues there. Let us know what you find!
