Post subject: Marriage of Joseph Klimowski and Apalonia Pavlak in Chicago
Can anyone help locate a record of the marriage of Joseph Klimowski? I believe his wife was Apalonia Pavlak. Below is what I have gleaned:
The 1910 Census, sheet 11, District 1641, Chicago Ward 8, Cook County, Illinois, shows Joseph age 36, born in Russian Poland, married for 4 years, immigrated in 1890. A carpenter.
The 1920 Census, sheet 10, District 2258, Chicago Ward 8, Cook(Chicago) County, Illinois, shows Joseph age 50 born in Poland. He is widowed. Immigration year not shown. Laborer at a chemical company. In 1920, the family of Antony & Julia Pavlak live next door. From this and the 1930 census information, it appears that Antony & Julia Pavlak were the parents of Joseph's wife.
The 1930 Census, sheet 60, District 427, Chicago(Districts 251-500) Cook County, Illinois shows Joseph age 59 as father-in-law to Stanley Pokorski (?) husband of Genevieve. Also shows Casimer as grandson and Helen as granddaughter to Jules(Julia?) Pavlak(?) age 70 born in Poland. Widowed. Jules(Julia?) immigrated in 1890 as did the son August age 40. Immigration year for Joseph is 1895.
Found on the site: geneteka.genealodzy.pl Birth of Josef Klimowski, 1873 in the parish of Sweidziebnia.
More:
The 1910 Census, sheet 11, District 1641, Chicago Ward 8, Cook County, Illinois, shows Apalonia age 23, born in Russian Poland, married for 4 years, immigrated in 1890. 2 of 3 children still living.
A Cook County, Illinois Certificate and Record of Death shows a Paulina Klimoski, married, born Oct. 9, 1886 in Poland died on May 23 1913 at an address on Houston Ave. Burial was at Holy Cross on May 26, 1913. Father: Anton Pawlak. Maiden Name of Mother: Julia Zefkowski, both born in Poland. Joe Klimoski provided the information in the record. A second copy of the record has the Mother's maiden name as Julia Szitkowski.

According to the PGSA (Polish Genealogical Society of America) Marriage Index for Polish Parishes in Chicago through 1915 a Joseph Klimowski married an Antonina Cich?? (apparently the indexer had a hard time reading her surname) on 13 May 1906 at St. Casimir Church – Film #1710638, Item #3, page 42, Vol. 1. [film # refers to LDS film which can be borrowed from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, UT through their local Family History Centers http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp ]

Also at the PGSA website is a PRCUA (Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, a mutual benefit society, death claims after 1912 usually include a death certificate) Insurance Claim Index. http://pgsa.org/PRCUA/prcu.php You do not have to be a member to search this. You can order copies of claims for a small fee from PGSA. Found there:
Name: Klimowski, Apolonia, Claim date: 23 May 1913, claim # 4890, Society 606 [St. Elizabeth of Chicago IL, Pauline Pedersen Secretary ), Vol. 10, page 14
Hope this helps. PL

Update - There is a marriage license image at FamilySearch.org (just search surname klimowski, marriage location Chicago and date 1906). Bride's name is Antonina Cichorsz (quite clear here). I believe this is the civil record whcih is different from the PGSA indexed church record with the LDS Film # where the bride's surname apparently was not so clearly written.
Good luck.

I found the church marriage record of Josef Klimowski and Antonia at St. Casimir Church, Chicago. They were married on 13 May 1906 by Jozef Kruszka, Catholic Priest of St. Casimir Church. What I’m reading is: Josef Klimowski, Residence 1159 W. 24th Pl, son of Michal [Klimowski] and Katarzyna Uleasz[?], bride’s present name Antonia Cicho[rest of the name missing, most likely Cichorze/Cichorza], Residence 46, 24th Pl., daughter of Stefan [Cichorze] and Elzbieta Slydaczek. Witnesses were Sebastyan Cichorze and Genowefa Wienczek [?].
Source: www.familysearch.org, Illinois, Chicago, Catholic Church Records, 1833-1925, St. Casimir (Chicago), Marriages, 1891-1916.
I didn't have time to search on, I'm just wondering if this is the right marriage. The bride's name is Antonia or Antonina Cichorsz/Cichorze/Cichorza instead of Paulina or Apolonia Pavlak.

Thank you all for all the digging.
However, I think this may not be the correct Joseph Klimowski. At FamilySearch.org, I found a Cook County birth certificate for Clementine Klimowski, born 25 Aug 1911, which lists her mother's maiden name as Apolonia Pavlak. Father, Joseph, is 39. Mother is 25. Both listed as being born in Poland - Russia - Europe. They lived at an address on Houston Avenue. I also indicates this was the 4th child of this mother with 3 still living.
Also, from my notes:
An Illinois, Cook County Birth Certificate for John Klemosky shows him born on 22 Feb 1907 in Chicago, Cook County, IL. Father: Joseph Klemosky, age 33, birthplace Russia. Mother: Apolonia Powlak Klemosky, age 20, birthplace Russia. Place of birth and residence is 13251 Carondelet Ave. Number of previous children: one. How many now living (in all): none.
These items would seem to put the year of marriage around 1905 to 1907.
Sorry, I did not include all this in the first note, I did not expect to find another Joseph married so close to the same time in Chicago.
I'm hoping to find the names and perhaps place of origin of Joseph's parents. Joseph was my great grandmother's brother.

To our experts on Chicago Polish parishes:
If the family's residence was at 13251 Carondelet Ave. when their son John was born on 22 Feb 1907, which church would the family most likely have attended?? I searched Holy Cross, Saints Cyril and Methodius, and St. John Cantius baptisms for John's baptismal record-- nothing!
If we knew the name of the church, we could search for John's baptismal record, and there would be a high probability that Joseph and Apolonia were married at the same church around 1905 to 1907.

Ute, I did a search for 13000 Carondelet and I got a map showing nearby Hegewisch -sounds Polish to me so I searched again for Hedewisch and found a picture of the stained glass windows of the church, which lead me to St. Florian 13145 Houston Ave. and that led me to this marker. The church is 5 blocks from 13000 Carondelet .

Post subject: St. Florian Church
I went to school at St. Florian and lived in Hegewisch. The OLD St. Florian was on the corner and was an old wood building that has been tron down for years. However, St. Florian's did build a new Parish in the middle of the block that is still there along with the recotory and school buildings. Alos, the chemical plant would have been General Chemical which is located on 122nd and Carondolet; my grandfather was a supervisor at the plant many years ago. Now back to St. Florian...if you need the address or phone number just let me know and I will be happy to get it for you. And yes, Hegewisch was an ALL Polish neighborhood at one time. What other info can I help you with?

Just to infom you, Holy Cross is the Polish Cemetery located in Calumet City, Illinois. Most everyone from St. Florain Church was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery. I think your family was from the St. Florian Parish and that would be where they were married and buried at Holy Cross Cemetery.
I do know where the house is located on Carondolet Avenue; Chicago, Illinois 60633 (zip code); Hegewisch is in Chicago but all the Polish people nicknamed the area Hegewisch and at one time, you could mail a letter using Hegewisch in the address and the letters would get there; most people in Chicago know where Hegewisch is located and it is the 10th Ward now not the 8th.

Thanks again everyone!
Not knowing much about the Chicago area, I probably would never have found the connection to the St. Florian church or the Hegewicsch neighborhood. I'm trying to contact the church/parish. I will let you know if I am successful.

Thank you, Bill and bruceter2! St. Florian is right! I checked part of the St. Florian parish records -- didn't find the marriage record or birth/baptism records of the children(yet), but Apolonia Klimowska's death, so St. Florian must have been the church the family attended. Apolonia passed away on 23 May 1913 at age 27. Her parents were indeed Antoni Pawlak and Julianna (last name not given), the family's residence was at 13336, Houston at the time. Interment was at Stae Crucis, Hammond.
I'm attaching the record.
