Appeared Markus Szymelowicz Bloch, farmer, 52 years old, living in the village of Pokomsze, in the presence of the witnesses, Szloma Ickowicz Bachrak, a trader, 70 years old and Joskiel Mowszowicz Janowicz, a tailor, 66 years old, both living in the village of Puńsk, and presented Us a male child, informing that the child was born in the village of Pokomsze, on June, 1839, of him and his wife, Basia nee Klinkowsztejn, 50 years old.

This act was read to the declarant and the witnesses and it was signed.
The declarant demanded Us to enter this act on the basis of the article 97 of the Polish Civil Code, in the 10th section of the official law monitor. The entry of this birth was delayed due to the fact that the synagogue sexton did not inform on time the Civil Registrar about the childbirth.
The witnesses declared they were illiterate.

M. Bloch.

Hello,

I believe this is my grandmother's baptismal record (Helena Kopec), which we were surprised to discover she had a twin. It looks like he died soon after birth.

Would you please be so kind as to translate the book cover plus both of their records for me? I am especially interested in the handwritten note in the last column for Helena -- I think it is maybe a record of her Confirmation that was added many years later.

I have more photos if you need a better view. Some words might be cut off in the pictures I attached. Please let me know.

thank you!
Renee

Thank you for the translation, this is definitely my grandmother, Helena... and my great-grandparents the Kopeć and Cieslaks.

The only thing that doesn't fit with our family information is my great-grandmother's first name.... The mother of the babies in this birth record is listed as Weronika Kopeć nee Cieślak, but she went by Maria throughout her whole life. Does anyone have insight as to why she might have been listed as Weronika in this record book? Was it perhaps common practice that perhaps mothers were listed by their confirmation name?

It would be easier to answer this question if I had access to Veronica's birth and marriage certificates.
