Post subject: Wloclawek - PDF presentation and records availability
WLOCLAWEK
The first time I saw this word was in 2004, on the Ellis Island Records web site. I had no idea of how to pronounce it, or where it was located in Poland. Wloclawek was listed on the passenger ship manifest, as the last place of residence for my great grandfather Antoni Cybulski, prior to him immigrating to the USA in 1906.
Since that day, I have had the joy of visiting Wloclawek, first in 2006 and again in 2009.
I have also discovered that many more of my family were born in Wloclawek, or in the surrounding villages. My great grandmother Julia Dolecka, Antoni's wife, was born here, along with her parents, brothers, and her mother's family. My great great grandfather, Franciszek Cybulski, married a young woman from Wloclawek, Jozefa Szultz, whose family was from here, and all seven of their children were born here. When Jozefa died, Franciszek married another woman from Wloclawek, Marianna Nakonowska, whose family was also from Wloclawek. They had two children , Stanislawa and my great grandfather Antoni.
On my visit in 2009, I had the great pleasure to meet a distant cousin, Jozef S., who is related through my great great grandmother Marianna Nakonowska. Jozef was born and raised in Wloclawek, and still lives there today. Jozef and I , along with Zenon, spent a wonderful day together in Wloclawek, where Jozef gave me a history lesson on our family, and on the city of Wloclawek . Dziekuje Jozef.
Below is a link where you can view a slide presentation on the city of Wloclawek. It contains photos, maps, and a brief history of Wloclawek.
Many thanks to Nancy M. for suggesting that I make a presentation of Wloclawek, to Shellie G. for all of her assistance in assembling this project, and also to my cousin Jozef S. for his knowledge of the city and the great photos he shared with me.

Post subject: enjoyed your Wloclawek presentation
My grandmother was born in Wloclawek, and grandfather lived not far away in Jaranowo. This gave a good picture of the old and new. _________________ Christine Modjeski Robinson

Thank you very much for your comments about the Wloclawek presentation.
It was a lot of fun making it , except that seeing all the photos made me want to be there, and that probably will not happen for a few years yet.
Jakrysi; I had driven through Plock with Zenon, on my first visit to Wloclawek. I was riding " shotgun " , and reading the map. When we were almost to Plock, I told Zenon, " We are coming into Plock " and I pronounced it the American way. He tried to stifle a laugh, and said it is pronounced " P woo sk ". So I had a laugh when I saw that you had written Plock as it should be pronounced in Polish.
Omnima; What is the surname of your relatives from Wloclawek ?
I have many relatives from Wloclawek and the surrounding area. Great grandparents, great great grandparents, and I have a distant cousin, Jozef, who still lives there. I was able to meet with Jozef on my visit in 2009. Thankfully I was with Zenon and he was able to be the translator, because my Jozef didn't speak any English.

Post subject: Wloclawek family names
Thanks, that was interesting and informative. I knew my Ruminski grandmother had some brothers, but not their names. And I knew her father's name as well. Agnieszka was Franciszcek's third wife, as family lore goes. Stanislava was born 1894. Her cousin, also names Stanislava Ruminska was born 1896, also emigrated to the US in 1914. The two Stanislava's together. I am going to a family reunion in a few days so I will be able to share this information! _________________ Christine Modjeski Robinson

James, I've been looking at the family name info your cousin sent. Does this mean we are distant cousins by marriage? I see the Nakonowska on it, and you mentioned previously that was a relative by marriage's name.

omnimr, you would be correct that we would be related via marriage ! My great, great grandmother was Marianna Nakonowska. She was born in 1839 in Wloclawek. The Nakonowski surname is quite extensive in Wloclawek. My cousin Jozef is also related to Nakonowski on his mother's side. He has sent me a family tree for Nakonowski and it seems there are hundreds of them. So it will see if I can research it.
I may be able to give you some more info in the near future, concerning Stanislawa's family tree.

omnimr,
My cousin Jozef, in Wloclawek, has been researching the Nakonowski family tree for us, and so far he has not found a definite link, but one may be there somewhere.
I will keep you posted.

Go to the web site for the Wloclawek Archives;
[email protected],gov.pl
You should be able to email the archive with a request for them to perform research for you ( at a fee )
You can write in English, but their communication with you will be in Polish.

There is a lot of documents from city of Wloclawek both in state and in church archives in Wloclawek. You did not provide information what you were looking for so I assume metrical documents. There are Roman-Catholic records since 17th century, civil records for the beginning of 19th century, lutheran records for the most of 19th century and beginning of 20th century, jewish records, even some baptist and ortodox. Plus there are a lot of other records that can be of use (like so called Ksiegi Ludnosci Stalej - registers of citizens of Wloclawek in 19th century and the beginning of 20th century. I would just listen to the advice above and email the state archives with some more specific questions (or post them here).
