I did receive an email notification just now, even though I am logged on to the forum. So now I have learned that being logged on is not what prevents me from receiving an email notification.

Hi Sophia,
I just got a notification also. However, I was logged into the forum. I have to see if I get a notification when I am logged out.
Warm Regards,
Trish |
Hi Trish,
Now that you are logged out, do you still receive a notification?

Hi Sophia,
I got an email notification. However, the forum stated I was still logged in when I went to go clicked on the link about the notification. I’m not sure if worked.

Hi Trish,
I can see you are now logged out. So here's your test reply!

Hi Sophia,
It worked! I got an email that you replied to my message. When I clicked on the link, it still showed I was logged out and the link took me right to the message.
Does this mean no more playing tag you're it? LOL
Warm Regards,
Trish

Zenon, I do have it checked off where I am "supposed" to receive notifications when someone posts a relpy. However, most of the times I do not get any type of message that someone posted to my post or to a post that I was responding to.
I do hope that you can get to the bottom of this issue. I feel as though this is the reason why so many people do not reply to a request for they did not know someone responded to their request.
Thank you for all you do with keeping this forum up and running!
Warm Regards,

Trish (and everyone),
If this happens again, please just send me a quick message (maybe private message so we do not develop this non-genealogical topic thread ). When you do, include a short description of what you noticed, along with reference links to the specific thread. We will then try to check it.
I received two email notifications for your first posts after mine, but none after that - which makes sense to me. I do not need additional notifications about message from the same person in given thread if the first one already includes a link that takes me to the specific message and I can read the rest the whole thread.
Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Zenon,
In my opinion, this is a genealogical thread, since it is about people knowing or not knowing that someone has replied to their post. I cannot count the times that a volunteer on this forum has put time and effort into replying to a person's question, only to have them not know about it. I can say this because I have contacted some people by private message (after waiting an appropriate amount of time since not everyone works on genealogy 24/7) and they have told me they never knew they had received replies.
In future, should I observe that I have not received an email notification, I will send you a private message as you have requested. I'm sure we all want the forum to run smoothly. It is a lovely little community.
Best wishes for a happy weekend,
Sophia

Sophia,
Of course, please let me know if you notice any problems with the notifications.
By the way, after many months of fighting spam and testing different solutions, our IT specialist implemented a new, creative mechanism this weekend. We hope it will significantly reduce the amount of spam on the forum and make the whole experience more pleasant for everyone (but the spammers).
Best,
