I have been trying to locate the birth record for my grandmother Rozalia Cierpicz born on January 18 in 1884 or 1885 . Her parents are Michaela Cierpicz and Maria Ulranin. Documents filed in the US indicate her birthplace is Cieszanow. My research shows there was only 1 parish in that town. Apparently there is one metrical church book that says Cieszanow in its title, but its only available on microfilm at the LDS library in Salt Lake City Utah USA. Its World Catalogue Unique Item Number 866041648. Has anyone had access to this book elsewhere? Its titled metrical Books 1818-1900 "Roman Catholic Narol Miasto (Cieszanow), Galizien, Austria; later Austria; later Narol (Lubaczow, Lwow, Poland; now Narol

Is there any Poland state archive for this book? Any help anyone can provide is much appreciated.

Two of these are for the Greek Catholic Church and one is for the Roman Catholic Church in Cieszanów. When you look at the listing for the Greek Catholic records, be cautious because it is for several churches, all of which belonged to the "dekanat" of Cieszanów, not specifically the church in the town of Cieszanów.

If your family were Roman Catholic, then it is unfortunate that the years 1884 and 1885 seem to be missing from those records. You can see on Geneteka an index of births that broadly covers the years 1818 to 1907, but there are gaps including the years that you want:

If you look just above the table you see a bar where the years that are available are shown in green and the missing years are white. As you see, births from 1866 to 1885 are not there.

However, perhaps your family were Greek Catholic? I ask this because I looked at all the indexed names for births, marriages and deaths that Geneteka has for the Roman Catholic church in Cieszanów and the surname Cierpisz only shows up once. That is for birth #16 in 1893 for Anna Turkoć whose father's name was Jan Turkoć and whose mother's name was Katarzyna Cierpisz. They belonged to the parish of Cieszanów but lived in Niemstów. It could be the name Cierpisz was much more present in the years for which records are missing, though, so it could still be the family were Roman Catholic.

I am also not seeing the surname Ulranin in Geneteka's index for Cieszanów, although I do see a few Uranin elsewhere in woj. Podkarpackie, specifically in Jarosław.

If you'd like to share the records you have on Rozalia Cierpicz that show she is from Cieszanów, I'd be happy to take a look, on the off chance that you were having trouble deciphering the handwriting of a ship manifest or something and that Cieszanów was just a "best guess." If you are already certain of the place, then I don't know how to guide you on finding the missing years for the Roman Catholic records but you may try looking at the Greek Catholic records.

thank you very much for the guidance. I got the town of Cieszanow from a typewritten "Declaration of Intention" that was filed when Rose started the naturalization process. She never did complete the process. As far as I know from the family, they were always Roman Catholic. Maybe the records are missing. I will look at the books you cited. It looks like I can see the first source you cited, id #866037270 at a local LDS library. I did not realize that bar on the top of geneteka records showed missing years. Thanks again as I thought I had looked closely at the titles of metrical books, but I missed this one.
