This is very exciting information because it looks like your family is related to our fellow member Cheri. Her great-grandmother Magdalena Babicz Lenart is also the daughter of Jozef Babicz and Anna Szymusiak from Zaluczne!

Shelli,
That is wonderful news. How do I reach Cheri? Or, can you advise her?

Dave I can help you with that - no problem!

By the way, I noticed that the baptism certificate was signed by Father Jan Cantius Mis. Relatively famous priest in Odrowaz.

Hi cousin Dave!
You can read about my family and see some photos at my Lenart-Babicz from Zaluczne thread:

Joseph Babicz and Anna Szymusiak are my great great grandparents. I don't know who Joseph's parents are yet, but Anna's father was Wojciech Szymusiak.
Good to meet you!

Hi little cousin Cheri,
Now I know that Josheph Babicz and Anna Szymusiak are my great grandparents. That certainly does make us cousins. It would be awesome to see a picture of my Busia! Her name was Angela (Nellie). Her Mother was Thecla (Babicz) Kalec. It appears that her sister was Magdalena.
I can wait to go home from work and read all that you have.
Great to meet you too!
Dave

I'm pretty sure great-grandmother Mary Rafacz was from either Zaluczne or Odrowaz, but I haven't figured where yet. The church records for her marriage list her baptism in Odrowaz on Feb. 5, 1889. Her parents were Wawrzyniec and Josepha. Those records also list the same town for my great-grandfather and I'm pretty sure his family was living in Dzial at that time. Maybe it's because these towns are covered by a parish in Odrowaz. I see some passenger lists with Rafacz family members from Zaluczne traveling to Gallitzin, PA, where she was living when she was married. I'm not jumping to conclusions, but I suspect these were some degree of cousins. I haven't found her in a passenger list yet though. I'm not aware of any siblings yet.

Hi taraba,
There is a Wawrzyniec Rafacz that arrived in NY on 16 Mar 1901. He was 36, so born about 1865. He was going to his brother's in Pennsylvania. This could be your Mary's father. He was from Pieniążkowice, which is a village just a little over two miles from Odrowaz. I would guess that the villages of Pieniążkowice and Dzial did not have their own churches when your great grandparents were baptized, but I don't have time to confirm that right now.

Thanks. I did find that one and was tracking that person in a large Rafacz tree, but I haven't found any other info that corresponds to that person except that passenger list even using Lawrence as the first name. I don't know if he died or went back home or just came for a visit.

This is the link to the National Archives in Poland scan of 1846 kadastral map for Zaluczne

http://www.szukajwarchiwach.pl/29/280/0/13.1/2788/str/1/1/100#tabSkany

These maps are big, and are broken down into several large pages. The most important thing to know about these maps is that the number in the yellow square does NOT match up with the house number in the church books. To match the house number with the inhabitants, you need the “operat” with the names of the villagers, and the location of their homes and land parcels.

The Zaluczne map has 5 main pieces that fit together like a puzzle. I labeled each piece so I could keep track of them - The ZZ labels are NOT from the archive. It is pretty easy to figure out where each piece goes, but fitting them together helps with orientation.

Zaluczne composite ZZ map.png
 Description:
The labels - ZZ-1, ZZ-2, etc are not part of the map. They are just to help with orientation when looking at the individual map pieces. Most of the houses are in maps ZZ-2 and ZZ-3
