Post subject: Gall - Gal Family near Odrowaz Malopolskie
Our friend Renee recently posted a message on the Odrowaz thread about her family names, including the Gal - Gall family. I've heard from many people interested in this name over the past 2 years, so we are creating a thread for discussion.

What I know for certain is that my maternal grandparents were Angeline Gall (born in the US April 1913) and Michael Figura (born in the US 1907). I don't have as much information on the Gall side and it's quite a mystery- Angeline's mother was named Mary Gall and did come to the US from Poland in 1911, but she was married twice to a John Gall and an Aleksander Gall (immigrated in 1902)- that's the mystery- we don't know the circumstances around this whatsoever! Another name related with the Gall side is Petin, but we really lack information.
The Gall side is a complete mystery! I found today from a 1930 census just basic information on Aleksandar (Alex on the census). He immigrated in 1902 and his wife, Mary, immigrated in 1911. Her name still would have been Gall as she was married to John Gall before Alex. That means that my great-uncle John would have been born in Poland too as he was born in 1908, but I'm pretty sure the census said he and my grandmother Angeline were both born in Illinois! Alex was 38 at the time of his first marriage and Mary was 20. Also, my mother remembers that Mary and Alex had a farm up in Michigan at some point and that the son John took it over. That's all I was able to discover about the Gall side today!
Renee,
So was Alex your grandmother's father or step-father? Do you think that Mary immigrated to the US before or after she married John? How did you learn that she was married to John? Have you had any luck finding Mary's immigration records?

Hi Shellie!
I'm pretty sure that Alex was my grandmother's step-father. The 1930 census says that Alex was 38 at the time of his first marriage which would make my grandmother 7 at that time. Alex is for sure the only grandfather that my mother ever knew, but my mother remembers family talking about the first husband John. The thing is that there were no pictures of him! Any family photo that he would have been in with Mary, my grandmother Angeline, and my great-uncle John, the father John was cut out from! I guess no one really ever talked about it so my mom was always left wondering too.

We know of a Gall family from Cicero,IL. My aunt and one of here sisters are still around......I believe the father's name was Stanley but don't remeber the mother's name. Their children were Stanley,Irene,Joan,Virginia. The children would be in their 60's and 70's now. They were members of Mary Queen of Heaven Parish in Cicero but I don't know what Polish church they would have attended prior to that.
