Hello,

Could someone please translate this greeting from inside a Christmas card? I do well with most of the top half, but am having difficulty with the writing on the lower part of the card.

Leonore,

I've typed the text and translated it (more or less). I hope it will help.

Aga Pawlus -

Thank you for the translation. This is the fun of searching! An answer makes more questions.
Sophie I know. Sounds like Ludwiku is her husband, but he was known in the US as Rupert.

And now - there was a family named Szczygielski in Rypin, that my cousins had no knowledge of.

Thanks again,
Leonore

Hello,

I have a two page letter now, recently found in the family. Could it also be translated, please?

Leonore,

Nostalgia of coming Christmas, insurmountable distance, very scarce letters, so difficult to catch between family members on two continents. It's from 1968, hard time in Poland: no telephone, no communication, iron wall splitting the world. This letter is like a bottle to the ocean with love, from an Uncle writing to his niece (apparently easier to communicate with Zosia that with his brother, and Zosia's father).
Tranlating such a sentimental letter is far away from what is expressed inside.

Best,
Elzbieta

Kochajaca nasza rodzinko Zosiu siostrzenice !

U nas w Rypinie zmarl nasz kuzyn, nazywa sie Irawski jakas rodzina – tez podobno mieszka w Ameryce Irawski, co u waszego tatusia przyjezdzal 2 razy na wizyte w goscinie spedzal, wiec pisal do nas kiedys was tatus i nadmienial o takim nazwisku. Czy jeszcze zyja i mieszkaja w Chicago rodzina Zdzieblawskich. Waszej ukochanej cioci Helenie syn i synowa a twoj brat Edmund maja tez dzieci, to by na dzis bylo wszystko.
Wlozylem kartke swiateczna i oplatek swiateczny wspolnie lamiemy i zyczymy wzajemnie duzo zdrowia i pieniedzy oraz sto lat zycia i powodzenia i w dobrym bycie i odchodzimy zegnamy sie z wami. Do widzenia.
Niech bedzie pochwalony Jezus Chrystus. A odpowiecie damy odpowiedz.

Translated:

Beloved our family, Zosiu, nieces !

We write a quick note if you do not write Zosia to us, but I'm Uncle, I missed you much, and now my thought ask for you Zosia, how are you doing, how is your daughter’s life and her husband, your son in law, where do they live. I ask you so much, please describe in detail about all yours, their position. I wish you, and your husband, and your children, health and success and luck. But the sad life is, we worry for your beloved parents. Greetings from me to your dad, my brother and his sisters. Here, in Rypin, died our cousin, name Irawski, some sort of family - also supposedly lives in America, that Irawski; How is your daddy, he visted us two times, was a guest, so he wrote us a letter once, and alluded by that name. Do you know if Zdzieblawskich family still live in Chicago and is alive. Your beloved Aunt Helen's son, your brother, Edmund and his wife (Helen’s daughter-in-law) also have children, it would be all there for today.

I put a Christmas card, we share and break jointly with you the Christmas Eve wafer [oplatek], we wish each other many health and money, and one hundred years of life, and good luck and good being and we go say goodbye to you. Goodbye.

Praised be Jesus Christ. And we will answer your answer.

Farewell, be all healthy, otherwise nothing new from me.
I am ending with that, best wishes for the whole your little family, sharing a wafer with you, so do my children, and our daughter’s children, and sons:
Wanda, Maria, Czeslaw, Ludwika
Kazik [Kazimierz]. Zygmunt. Edmund: our daddy and mommy.
Leopold and Angela Szczygielski
Rypin, 13 December 1968.

Thank you, Elzbieta. I thought my family name had disappeared from Rypin in 1903 - this translation
tells me there was a cousin still in Rypin in the 1960's. Need to decide if I need a researcher or a third
visit to Poland. You are right - family love is there despite the ocean and political barriers separating them.
I appreciate your help.
