Post subject: Kulawiak, Kadlub
I am curious about my family surnames, Kulawiak and Kadlub. The families lived in a village named Odrowąż. I have found 4 villages named Odrowąż. Some family members said the family came from Krakow, and so I think maybe their village is in Gmina Czarny Durajec, Nowy Targ, Malopolske.
Kul-; Kulawiak from Polish kula - ball, bullet, crutch, sphere, kulić się - to crouch or, most probable in case of your Kulawiak old souonding, kulas - lame, cripple.
Kadłub literally in Polish trunk, carcass, body.
It seems Shellie that you were write about the location of "your" Odrowąż. Look at the map where Kulawiaks currently live in Poland: https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Kulawiak . The most of them live in Nowy Targ county - 288. And in case of Kadłub half of all people bearing this surname (54) in the whole Poland live in Nowy Targ https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Kad%C5%82ub
So it seems that you are descendant of Polish highlanders - "Góralka" (highlander-woman)
