Hello,
I started doing more research on the church that was erected in 1903 in Wheeling WV called St. Ladislaus. The main priest was father Emil Musial, who ran the church from 1903-1961. I looked in the paper for the dedication on Feb 23, 1903, and found a young Emil's picture from his ordination in the article. Also it gave a year of arrival, and said he was born in Schleisia Prussia in 1875. Am I correct in thinking that it is Schlesia? Or Schlesian? This is the first I had run across that name, and seems it is still divided today more than in the past. Supposedly the priest was from the same area as others in my family. The article also said he was in school in Detroit, as well as Italy. Also, would there be records from Italy in the 1890's for priests that were schooling? Think I found his voyage over in 1900, under Emilio Muschiol.
Thanks
John

John,

It's tricky because "Schleisien, Prussia" is Śląsk, Silesia, name of region.

I looked up names staring with "Schlei" in old geography book
http://dir.icm.edu.pl/Slownik_geograficzny/Tom_X/376

Schleisien = Szląsk (i.e. Śląsk, Silesia, name of region)
few lines later
Schliesa = village with name changing over time, near Piskorzów; Piskorzów is close to Wroclaw, Breslau, few km south (and in Śląsk, Silesia region).

Emil Musial is almost certainly Emil Musiał, more than 23000 persons with this name in today Poland, a lot in Śląsk, Silesia region:

Best,
