Hi All,

My name is Kori Maleski.

My great grandfather is originally from Drancza Polska, Radziwillow, Dubno, Volhynia, Poland. His wife, my great grandmother was from the nearby town of Suchowola, Brody Tarnopol, Poland. These two towns are adjacent, but divided by what the old border between Russian and Austrian occupied Poland.

I have - with great help from new found relatives, indexed the Catholic Parish records for both the areas. It took a bit longer than I expected to complete Suchowola/Brody. This is a second posting to update the completion of Suchowola.

The index contains the majority of families in their entirety - with some errors and omissions. Beyond being simply a birth/marriage/death index - I have related the families based on witnesses and sponsors as well as supplementary information. Everyone within the index is related biologically or by marriage.

It should be noted that a fair number of families from Suchowola participated in the first wave of immigration to Canada between 1895-1915 or so. The majority of these resettled in the are of Brokenhead, Manitoba and some in Winnipeg, Manitoba (A few like mine went to Saskatchewan). They came for the Western Land Grant. I have mapped most of these families out in the index.

If you have any supplementary information to add or have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers,

Kori Maleski

Kori,

Very well done website, congratulations.

I was interested which software did you use, noted it's The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding, http://tngsitebuilding.com/

Best,
Elzbieta

Thank you Elzbieta,

The process started with MS Excel worksheets.

I added entries from microfilms that I had scanned as well as from the AGAD films.

Rather than use the standard birth/marriage/death structure of other indexes, I used a family structure that looks similar - but organizes better. There are SO MANY priest errors. The only way to correct for is to look at the families as a unit. Errors consist of swapping father for son's first name or incorrect house numbers.

I then used Ancestry.com for data entry, as it is easier to use for quick entry. The index is 5500 people. I needed it to be quick.

I then used Family Tree Maker to synchronized with the online tree to a file, for back up and other work.

Exported GEDCOM for a TNG hosted site. Why not do it all in TNG? Needed the research functionality of Ancestry to find descendants. i.e Ship Manifests etc.

I also uploaded the GEDCOM to MyHeritage to use its research capabilities, as I find more Europeans use it over Ancestry.

It is a long process.

TNG is a fantastic software to display the results and allow for continued additions and editing.

I have all the source microfilm scans, and will add at some point.

Cheers,

Kori
