Post subject: Help Reading Signature
My Wife's Great GrandFather migrated to the US in 1907-1908 from Minsk and would never speak of his past. Her Grandfather now 94 got him to write the family name once and we're having trouble making out the spelling. We know nothing of that side of the family before 1922. It's the signature along the bottom of the card, that's repeated again, vertical on the right. We would really appreciate some help with it.

Hi,
I had difficulties to imagine what it could be written in Polish, Latin script, HC? JK? Which would suggest the given name starting with H or J.
Then it became much easier with Cyrillic script.
Жевицкий
Which could be in Polish Żewicki or Rzewicki - Ż and Rz spells the same.
Both names exist today, very few, 4 and 2 cases, but existing in today Poland.

NB. The bottom is rather Жевецкий - Żewecki or Rzewecki, but the vertical is clearly Жевицкий - Żewicki or Rzewicki
NB2. The English spelling by google is Zhevitsky; Polish spelling of the first letter Ż is similar to "J" in Jamie; Polish w spells like v.
May I suggest you try to spell it like in Polish to the 94 years old Grandfather, his memories can help.

I googled in Cyrillic Жевицкий Минск - Żewicki Minsk (it is Belarus now), and get many results, including Живицкий - Żiwicki. All that Żewicki Żiwecki Żiwicki have very close spelling, even for native Slavic language speaker.
