Post subject: surnames
When showing my pictures of Poland to an acquaintance recently,
she said that the "Matuszewscy" surname on a headstone was not
the family name - but meant that several people from either
the Matuszewicz or Matuszewski families were buried there.
Is she right?

Matuszewscy is plural form of male form Matuszewski and female form Matuszewska. So Matuszewscy is family name expressed in plural nominative form. And your friend is right saying that in the grave there are buried people from Matuszewski family.
