Post subject: help translating village name in death record
Hello all,
Marcelproust has generously translated the entire record already, but I could use more than one set of translating eyes to look at the village name in this death document for Andreas Krygier (Krueger). The village is underlined for convenience, but I am posting the entire record so you can get a feel for the scribe's handwriting.
Marcelproust translated the village as "Chochocin", however, there is no such village. This is why I am asking for additional translations / thoughts from the community.
I suspect this is another case of Polish witnesses verbally reporting a Prussian village name which is then written by a Russian scribe. The last time this happened with my great grandmother's birth village, it took multiple suggestions and translation attempts from the community and 3 years of research on my part before I finally found her birth village! It may take similar perseverance to find my great grandfather, Andreas!
I appreciate any help you can offer.
Best regards,
Cynthia

Hi Valerie,
Do you know if Sochocin was part of Prussia around 1825? The record clearly states the village is in Prussia, so if Sochocin was not part of Prussia, then it rules it out.
Thanks,
Cynthia

I think then this place may be ruled out.
Perhaps you might try the JewishGen Gazetteer here -
