Post subject: Erazem Stasik baptisamal cert. needs translated PLEASE!
I am attaching a baptismal cert. I think its written in Latin. I also would like some help figuring out how to read all the names of PLACES on here. Is this village info? Can I now procede to look for family in any of these ares? I do see that his real name is Erasmus. Is that his parents names and what else is written with parents name? OMGosh I am very excited to have found a 3rd cousin who was willing to share this with me. Shelly was right, keep looking and maybe you will find exactly what you need. Thank you so much Shelly for helping me get to where I am right now in my research. Everyone who helped thank you thank you thank you.

Stacy, his parish is located in the village of Brzeziny. The other places mention is where the church is connected to- the Diocese. All of those people will be in the same area. Save your $ and go there
Here is a little cheat sheet I made to help you as you may find other baptisms to decode.
patrinus... godfather/godmother/godparents
mater....... mother
pater........ father
filius.......... son
filia............ daughter
thorus .......legit marriage
agricola......farmer
nata...........nee name or maiden name
obst...........midwife

Hey Bill in the fathers section can you please take a look at it and tell me what you think it says I see the name joannis but do not know the rest. So how would I be able to locate LIVING family members> Is there a phone book for them, any thing? How also might I find out about Erasmus having brothers and sisters?
Also am I looking for Franciscus Stasik and Anna Stasik or Staiowska??

Stacey,
Congratulations! This is very exciting! I knew that you would eventually find a relative that could provide more information - it's great that you connected with your cousins. I just returned from visiting my family in South Eastern Poland. I hope that you will find some living relatives in Poland also! The baptismal certificate is truly a great find. Now you know exactly the village to focus your search. I think that his family home was at house (Numero Domus) number 99....?
I had great success finding relatives on Facebook.
All smiles for you!
Shellie

I looked at it for an hour and couldn't come up with anything definite. I was thinking Alina, Latinized as Alinae. I went through all the girls names in Polish. So I contacted my friend Haloosia in Poland and she just replied with this:
IMHO it can be a form of Oksana, Ukrainian and Slovakian form of Polish name Ksenia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oksana
Last name is more difficult. Three letters in the beginning I read as Jag...
But more? possibly Jagoda, Jagienka, Jagielska, Jagurka...??? Haloosia.
(Also his name would be Jan (John) as Joannis is his Latin name only)

Stacy, do you have other baptism papers? Have you used the name Heather in posts elsewhere on the net? If the answer is no then you are not going to believe what I just found.

PLEASE TELL ME. I have nothing else that is this informative, yet. Remember I am just 4 or 5 months into this. I feel very forunate to have found living relatives, I thought that was a task. Why what did you find?? Now you have me very excited. If you have found something from H. Kraska, she is related somehow through erasmus's son sylvester's wife. BUT I AM ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT WAITING TO HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE FOUND!!!!!!

I gave you my guesses, anything is possible. You have all the pertinent info at the top *. The main thing to remember is the house number. When you find other records they will have the same house number ie. people born, died, or married from the same house. The priest keeps records by house number in their books.
*If you want you can look up each word by yourself, go to a Latin dictionary site and type each word in and translate it. This is how we do it. There isn't many of us who know Latin anymore.
